The Jewelry Doctor Reviews (1)

Review: I visited this business in the spring of 2009 to have a watch repaired (Nixon Capital Automatic), because the crown of the watch was sticky and becoming difficult to adjust. I explained the issue to the company that bills themselves as a watch and jewelry repair store. They said that it was within their ability to fix. I left the watch with them and after several back and forths via phone, I came in to pick the watch up. At the time I noticed that the crown appeared to have been put back in at an uneven angle and remained difficult to remove. I can't recall whether it was worse than when I originally brought it in, and in the spirit of fairness, saying so would be unjust. I brought the issue to the attention of the person working and they assured me that it was fine and that all I had to do was pry a little harder to get it off. After the numerous phone calls back and forth that it took to get to this point, I thought, "just give me my watch and let me get out of here." Up until this point it hadn't caused me any problems, other than the increased effort. I brought the watch home, and returned it to it's case. It is a $1200 watch and I only wear it on special occasions (a handful of times a year). I do not wear it in the shower, but it does get wet occasionally when washing my hands. Turns out the issue with the crown was exacerbated by this company's work and moisture got in the watch. I sent the watch back to the manufacturer and they said that the amount of rust in there would require replacing the movement and casing of the watch ($300). Had this business simply been straightforward about their abilities and comfort level regarding their craft, I could have sent it directly to the manufacturer or taken it to a reputable business.Desired Settlement: I understand that this watch was not in perfect working order when it was brought to the company in question so to ask for a full replacement is not fair. That being said, this business's carelessness led to increased costs, that are now my responsibility as the owner of the property. I would like this business to agree to split the cost of the new casing and movement with me. I can provide a bill or invoice from [redacted] (the manufacturer) if that would suffice.
