Regarding the letter, ID: ***When the ring was first returned, the "stone" was not loose, rather, the "stone" rotated in the settingI contacted the manufacturer (*** ** ***) and was told this was and part of the designI told this to the customer and he seemed satisfied*** is a well respected designer and manufacturer of unique settings in steel and glass, and is sold worldwideThe "stone" in question is a diamond encased in hardened glass and then set into a Tension SettingDue to the setting there is a certain amount of care that must be used when wearing the ringThis was told to the customer at time of purchase-There has been some time trying to satisfy this customer, and dealing with overseas manufacturer has been somewhat difficult, but I did everything that I couldSpeaking to the manufacturer he told me that the ring showed little wear but this can happen under stressful situations, such as catching the ring against a hard objectIt is rare but it can happen.Irecommended filing a insurance claim on Homeowner PolicyI do not feel responsibility for loosing a diamond from a ringStones are lost all the time and no jeweler can tell what happens to a stone after it leaves the storeTo hold a jeweler responsible for something that happens outside of his business is fallacy.I cannot think of any reason the customer cannot file a claimIt would only be fraud if the claimant misrepresented facts.I would assist the customer with a filing as a matter of courtesyBut I refuse to be responsible for the loss in any way.I may add the following:I have recently retired and closed the shop * - In plus years, this is the first complaint that I was not able to resolve, and I have waited on tens of thousands of satisfied customersI am upset that my business has had to finish in this way.*
