Review: On 5/9/11, I purchased a Titan garbage disposal manufactured by Joneca Corporation via eBay. The unit is supposedly warrantied for 10 years against defects and breakage. Last week on 4/17/14, one of the internal Anti-Jam swivel pieces within the unit broke off due to what can only be described as a manufacturers defect. I contacted Joneca via phone on 4/18/14 and was advised the unit was still under warranty and I would only need to send a copy of the original receipt as well as the Model & Serial Numbers. This was done via e-mail that same day. Since then, I have spoken to via phone and received correspondence from [redacted] with [redacted]. He has advised that the warranty is non-transferrable and is only provided to the original purchaser and as this eBay seller is not one of their dealers or distributors, it is not eligible for the warranty. I have advised [redacted] that the item was BRAND NEW, still in its original packaging and had never been opened or installed and that this seller obviously purchased a number of these disposals from someone, as they still to this day have multiple units available for sale. He advised that since they were the original purchasers, the warranty is afforded only to them. I contend this is BS and that this "loophole" in their warranty could be applied to anyone and anywhere. Mr. Thadani advised if the unit had been purchased through one of their dealers (i.e. CostCo) the warranty would be honoured which I feel is no different than my purchasing it through an eBay seller. Wouldn't CostCo also be considered the "original" purchaser? After all, I'm sure Joneca doesn't just "give" them a case of disposals and then collect the money AFTER CostCo sells them. While the owner's & installation manual advise the warranty is "non-transferable", Joneca has yet to provide me with anything written stating the warranty is limited to the original purchaser or sales thru THEIR dealers and even if they did, I still feel I AM the original purchaser.Desired Settlement: I would request that Joneca provide me with a full replacement of the same or like unit based on their original promise at the time of my initial call and application of what I feel is a substantiated and documented claim against their warranty. I do not feel their justification of denying my claim based on their "original owner" statements is applicable in this case.
