Complaint: ***Hello Luisa:Thank you for the follow up.Before our lease was up, we asked if we could move into another apartment, but The Landing apartment manager said we could not according to corporate. We reluctantly renewed our lease on Oct 2, not sure what was going to happen. Since they wouldn't let us move to a new apartment, we had no choice but to renew. There has been much work done (all of which we are grateful for). The carpet was removed and replaced with vinyl flooring, however work on the apartment has not yet been completed. The contractor said that the wall still needs another layer of paint & then the trim could be added. I have waited patiently for them to return so I can put things back to where they belong and get back to normalcy. Progress on the wall began 10/3/(See attached pics)The last I heard from the contractor, they said they would be back the next day or soI don't remember the day this was but the last picture I have that shows the walls as they are today is 10/20/(See attached pics)That was a approximately weeks agoWe have not received any further notice from management as to when they are coming back to complete the wall. The majority of our furnuture is new since we were impacted by the Halloween flood in in the Austin, Tx - Kyle area. We lost everything and had to start over with new furniture. All of our belongings are still fairly new and they have all absorbed that smell of mildew due to prolonged exposureOur coffee table & side table started showing signs of rust which we just purchased in Feb of 2016. I washed and sprayed everything I possibly could but the smell remained. We spoke to the manager about the smell and she did send Armour Air to clean the duct in the kids room (10/19/17) as my kids and I were still experiencing an allergic reaction to the mildew spores that remained. Before the Victoria Apartment Association (VAA) contacted The Landing, I tried to contact them (VAA) to see what was going on but never received any calls back, so that is when I sent my complaint to the Revdex.com. When the VAA made first contact with The Landing, our apartment manager then called us and told us that corporate wanted to evict us in days but she made it her call and asked if we wanted toThat is day when progress began. This same day, I received my first email from Revdex.comWe were very scared after being threatened to be kicked out which was why I called the Revdex.com to report management had begun workingI didn't want to have anymore problems with management as we were trying to keep our family from being displaced.Everything upstairs and downstairs had absorbed the mildew smell from the walls. Later, I discovered another source of the smell, the shoe rack that had been up against the wall had mold on it and shoe cubby holder and shoes had absorbed the mold/mildew-y smellThe smell was real strong so I put it out in the garage, (see attached pictures)I tried to salvage the cubby & shoes. I washed the shoe cubby and it fell apart so I threw it away as it still smelled very strong. I washed the shoes times and they smelled just as bad as before washing themI also put them in the garage. These were brand new shoes my son had only worn about a dozen times. The cubby had many pairs of shoes, however, most of them were flip flops and were okI washed them all and only the pair we are seeking to be replaced had odor remaining. The source of the problem (the water sprinkler hitting the front door) has been fixedThe water sprinkler was been moved, however, the door frame itself has not been touchedThe last I heard was that the door was going to get replacedI'm not sure if that is still the case, or if it is even necessary, but at least it should be treated to prevent any future damage. After work was still in progress, we had a meeting with the manager and told her about the shoe rack, the cubby & shoes.I told her that I put the rack & the shoes behind the dumpsterThe shoes and rack were far out of sight and not easily seen from throwing regular trash away. The next morning, before our next meeting, they were both goneAll the trash that was behind both enclosed dumpsters were still there. These items that we would like replaced were not the only items damaged as a result of many months of moisture exposureHowever, I am only asking for these items to be replacedIt is not a lot of money to be fighting so hard for ($50) but with our financial situation, and with them being the only shoes my son with sensory processing issues had, then I feel it is the very least they should doWe have a very difficult time finding shoes that fit his sensory needsMy sister has lent me money to buy him another pair and I am waiting to pay her back. When we returned to speak to the manager the very next day, (10/17/17) we told her we would like to be reimbursed for those itemsWithout speaking to corporate, she immediately told us that corporate would not replace themShe said that was what renters insurance is forWe told her it would cost more to go through renters insurance than the amount we are asking for ($50). We started to argue and I repeatedly asked her for the phone number to corporateWe have asked her before but she would not give it to usShe said she would call them to tell them what is going onI said I would rather speak to them myselfFinally after asking again, she reluctantly gave it to meI asked her if it was ok to contact them in her officeShe said she was busy and she told us contractors were there at our apartment. I left a message for corporate and to this day have not received a call back from corporate. When she told us contractors were at our apartment, we went home immediately but no one was there, and no one showed up soon after. We stayed home all morning and afternoon waiting for someone to show up and only left our apt at 3:10pm to pick up our kids from school and went to a food bank after thatWhen we returned home, contractors were let into our apartment without our knowledge or consent which we feel is very intrusive (10/17/17).This is not the first time apartment personnel has come to our unit without prior noticeOn another occasion an apartment maintenance guy came to work on our apartment (10/3/17), he started cutting out the walls which would be great if I had been notified to prepare to move and cover our furnuture and belongingsThe dust went everywhere. He brought a big fan & left without telling me that he was done or how long to leave the fan on, or for how many days(As he never showed up again)When we told that to the apt mgr, she said that was her fault for not calling us. This apartment manager has told me on more than one occasion that we can just leave if we're not happy hereWe told her we like living in this neighborhood, we love our neighbors but most importantly, we could not afford to move and that it wasn't an option for usMy husband said he would stop working in the garage if she wanted us to and she said we did not have to stop. I feel preferential treatment was given to her daughter who just moved in who had already been getting work done to her apartment. She moved in after the hurricane and was getting work done on the week of Oct 5thI asked my neighbor friends who live near her if they had work done to their apt and they each said no. When I approached her about this, she said they already had plans to work on that apartment and she was very angry that I brought it up on occasionsMy husband helped her daughter move things into her apartment (not knowing it was her daughter) and I gave them some food I received from a food bank the day they moved in (again not knowing who she was). Each and every time I have spoken to this apartment manager at The Landing, she has spoken to me with a negative attitude and in an aggressive manor. I feel as if we have been treated very poorly, unfairly and with hostility yet we have no choice but to stay here for financial reasonsThe cabinets are still crumbly and falling apartI could request to be reimbursed for many damaged items we have lost while living here, but I only ask, again, for things to be fixed that should be fixed (the door trim, finish the wall) and reimbursement for the rack, cubby & one pair of shoes. Please find the attached photos of the current state and condition of repairs we are waiting on and damaged items.
Regards,
