Please see attached response. Refund request is denied. There is no warranty coverage involved.

I regret that my customer experienced a “no-start” condition with her vehicle about a month after her last oil change at Midas. She has been a repeat customer over the years. During her last oil change visit, the battery was tested as part of the Midas complementary courtesy check for her vehicle....

It tested good. The battery inspection did not include removing the cover for the electrical terminal assembly which is mounted directly on top of the battery. A small plastic flap was raised to connect to the positive battery terminal for the battery test. The technician did not see the excessive battery corrosion during the battery test. There was no reason to expect electrical failure and no-start incident. After the customer’s no-start and tow, the Buick dealership technician diagnosed that significant battery acid corrosion had damaged electrical components and cabling mounted on top of the battery. The repair estimate included replacing all the damaged electrical components and the battery. At my request, the dealership service department sent me photos of the damage. The corrosion appeared to have been caused by battery acid leaking through the battery fill plug(s) located under the terminal assembly. This corrosion was not visible without removing the terminal assembly cover. Photos of the customer’s battery and a typical battery installation with the terminal assembly cover in place are provided for comparison. After viewing the battery photos, I spoke to the Buick dealership service manager and director. I noted that the corrosion appeared to have been accumulating under the terminal assembly cover for an extended period of time, probably since the car was new. It was not visible without removing the terminal assembly cover. The corrosion was not caused by any lack of normal maintenance during the nearly 60,000 miles the vehicle has been driven. It was caused by the original equipment battery emitting acid through in improperly sealed cover plug, contacting and corroding the metal terminal components and cables covered by the assembly cover. I questioned whether there had been any Buick service bulletins regarding this problem or whether any warranty coverage would apply to this damage.I was advised that beyond 50,000 miles no Buick warranty coverage applies. It is my understanding that the customer is leasing the vehicle and does not have any extended vehicle warranty coverage. In conclusion, I regret that the customer has had problems with her vehicle. We appreciate her past loyalty in choosing Midas for her oil changes. In her most recent visit, her battery tested good in the complementary Midas Courtesy Check. The abnormal and excessive corrosion under the terminal assembly cover could not be seen and was not caused by any Midas actions. The subsequent electrical failure and “no-start” incident could not be anticipated. The Buick dealership accepts no warranty responsibility. Midas cannot accept any responsibility for the reasons summarized above. Please let me know if there are any further questions.Best regards,Michael E [redacted]President[redacted] Automotive Service, Inc.DBA Midas(317) 908-6854Midas Shop Locations:8530 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268(317) 872-11321210 N. I am disappointed that Midas does not want to accept any responsibility. There is NO way that battery could have been tested and the corrosion that is present was not noticed. If Midas can advise me about "tires" on my car that I can clearly see...Why didn't they tell me the battery was full of corrosion?
I had pictures sent to Midas by the Buick dealership to show the extent of the damages and to confirm that all damages were caused by the corrosion from the battery. Midas does not want to be liable but they assume responsibility when they provided me with the "false" diagnosis results from the battery test they performed.
