The Lodge At Sandpoint

I booked 3 nights here. It looked to be the best place in town and my husband and I were visiting his sister who lived right down the street. It was also our anniversary and we decided to spend a little extra money on a nice hotel. The first day we were there we went to grab something to eat and came back to our room. All the lights were on, the curtains were open and the sliding glass door was unlocked. The slider leads to a common walkway that anyone has access to. It was obvious someone had been in our room. We went to the front desk and was told that the hotel staff allowed the previous guests into our room to search for their things that they believe were left in there. Although they said they escorted them in, all of our stuff was unpacked and in there and then they left our room unsecured. I felt extremely violated. I was angry that they wouldn't even try to contact us on our cell phone to ask permission or wait for us to return. I have never had a hotel allow something like this. If I am paying for your room then it's my room until I check out. I was ready to leave and looking back I wish I had not given them another penny. After talking to the manager in the morning I was more upset as he did nothing but apologize and said it wouldn't happen again. I felt we were so disrespected that they should have offered something. He later offered to allow us to have a bottle of wine that was already in our room that we didn't drink and then left us a candy bar at our door. Is this how you run a business and keep customers happy?? We will be visiting quite often but will never frequent this establishment again. We have also made sure my sister in law will share with everyone in town and will share with every review site we can.
