Review: Letter I sent to the mansion at O Street,

9 April 2013

On Thursday the 4th of April I visited your museum with my son. During our visit a table was broken and I was required to pay for it. After leaving the museum and having time to reflect on the incident, I realized that since the table was broken through no fault of my son or me it should be covered through your insurance. I was told that the museum has no insurance and, therefore, I would need to pay for it. I feel as if the museum has perpetrated a fraud on me.

I am willing to return the table pieces to the museum, but I am not paying for a table that was broken through no fault of mine or my sons. My son and I were invited guests and trusted that the museums employees operated a safe and child friendly environment.

Again, my son was not running around, he was not playing; he was sitting on a chair provided by the museum. The chair tipped over when he turned to watch me and he fell on the table in question. He is a five year old child and hardly intended to break anything. He is more the victim, here, then the table. Luckily, he was not injured.

Sincerely,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I want a refund on the charge made to my credit card.

I am rejecting this response because:

Agreeing to pay for a broken table in the mist of a very disturbing situation is not an acceptance of fault. I have sent several copies of the letter to the O Street Museum without receiving a response. My son was not at fault for the table being broken and therefore I shouldn't have been asked to pay for it at all. Yes I was told I could claim the expense on home owners insurance as the museum has no coverage but as a soldier and non home owner that didn't seem an option. That being said I was so caught off guard by the entire situation that I did not take the table home with me to KY but left the pieces in DC and waited for the Museum to respond to my letters. I have attached a photo taken moments before the chair and table fell over. The children were not misbehaving the actual cause of the fall was the proportions of the chairs and the closeness of the rear legs. Again, the museum failed to respond to my communications and I thought the Revdex.com was a better option than a court setting to gain contact.

Regards,
