The Mark Travel Corporation Reviews (265)

Review: Thinking United Vacations was part of United Airlines (which it is not, which is misleading), I purchased a flight and hotel through United Vacations, which is The Mark Travel Corporation. I paid extra for "Premier Vacation Protection," which promised that I could "relax and have confidence in my vacation investment" because I could "cancel for any reason prior to departure" and "[a]lso included are revision fees for the first instance of any hotel, airline or United Vacations penalties." When I called to change my outgoing flight time, I was unable to do so without hundreds of dollars of fees. The reasons varied over the TWO HOURS I spent on the phone with The Mark Travel Corporation, much of the time on hold, while the agents allegedly were on hold with their own supervisors, and/or the airline -- first they tried to get me to call United Airlines, which had already transferred me to them because they are a separate company and United Airlines apparently cannot make a change on a reservation Mark Travel made; second they said the insurance would cover the $200 change fee but I would still have to pay a difference in the flight prices, third they said the flight prices were the same but my return flight was no longer available and they had to change that too b/c they couldn't just change the outgoing flight (?) and so I would have to pay a $500 difference in the return flight even though I didn't want to change it, fourth they said the return flight was available with no change but now, allegedly because it had taken so long, I would have to pay $150 for the new outgoing flight. I wasted so much time and got no relief. The insurance is obviously worthless, the customer service is horrible, and this was a terrible, terrible experience.Desired Settlement: Refund of at least the price I paid for the bogus insurance, apology for horrific customer service and misleading practices.

Re: ID [redacted]

Dear Mr. [redacted],

Thank you for your email regarding the complaint filed by Ms. [redacted]. I am sorry she is unhappy with our services.

Allow me to first explain that The Mark Travel Corporation operates United Vacations under a contract with United Airlines. We combine their air seats with hotels, car rentals, tours, and other land features to offer vacation packages. We do explain on the About Us page of our website that United Vacations is operated by The Mark Travel Corporation. We also reference Mark Travel in the Important Notice section of the Terms and Conditions, on the bottom of the Terms, and on the bottom of almost every screen throughout the online booking process.

With regards to the Premier Travel Protection, the revision option covers both supplier revision fees and United Vacations’ penalties. It does not, however, cover actual increases in fare due to flight changes. To clarify, every flight has multiple classes of service, each with its own fare. If a passenger changes their flight time, they are normally subject to a re-ticketing fee and to whatever the available class is at the current price. With the Travel Protection, we will waive the re-ticketing fee but the customer still has to pay any fare difference. In Ms. [redacted]’s case, she called us the day prior to her departure asking to change her outbound flight time. Because she purchased round trip bulk air, when we rebooked her outbound we had to re-pull her return also. Unfortunately, her original return flight was no longer available so our system would not allow us to complete the transaction without changing the return. We offered to change her outbound to the flight she wanted and to put her on a different return than originally booked for $111.00 but she declined. We attempted to find her other flight pairs but the fare difference was even higher so she decided not to take those options either.

I regret that Ms. [redacted] does not feel that the Premier Travel Protection is useful but she is only focusing on the revision option. The Travel Protection offers a wide variety of coverage, including cancelation protection where the customer will receive refunds of non-refundable airfares and hotels, a hurricane benefit, a price guarantee, and post departure insurance for trip delay or trip interruption, medical coverage, emergency evacuation, baggage coverage, etc. The cost of the Travel Protection gave Ms. [redacted] all that protection, not just the option to avoid revision fees. That being the case, I cannot agree to a refund of the entire cost of her Premier Travel Protection. As a courtesy, however, I will refund one third of the coverage cost, $33.33. The refund will be credited to the Visa account originally used for payment and Ms. [redacted] should be able to verify with her card provider in 6-8 business days.

I realize that this is not the reply Ms. [redacted] was hoping for but I trust this information has assisted her in understanding what happened with her reservation and the coverage she purchased.

Sincerely,

UNITED VACATIONS

Review: My fianc [redacted] and I booked a wedding vacation in May of 2015 through a travel agency that went through Funjet. Via health issues that came up we canceled the trip in September and provided a doctor's note via Funjet's requirement. It took 2 months and we were told that 3 people that booked the vacation with us would receive refunds and 3 people including us would not receive refunds via our deposit. It has been going on 3 months now and the 3 people that were told they would receive deposit refunds still have not received them. We were told today, December 4, 2015 that [redacted] that works for Funjet never canceled the reservations. [redacted], our travel agent confirmed that should have been done months ago. This is pure fraud and [redacted] should also face legal ramifications. I will not remove this Revdex.com complaint unless all parties for the [redacted] and [redacted] wedding vacation that was canceled for Cancun, Mexico is refunded their full deposit amount and via emotional and physical stress Funjet should provide a voucher to fly [redacted] and myself [redacted] wherever they would like to go within the Americas at a later date of their choosing. Funjet has been almost impossible to get a hold of, they have given us no correspondence and didn't even cancel the vacation request after that was supposed to and were told was done over 2 months ago.Desired Settlement: Refund for deposits for all parties that booked and canceled this trip in the amount of $2400 plus a flight voucher for myself ([redacted]) and [redacted] for a free flight at a later date.

Review: I planned a trip my sister and myself in July 2015 we was not able to go due to a death in the family. I am a single mom who works hard for her kids. We was not able to make it and I ask for a refund back and was told a refund was not go be giving, but we did have $600 a piece in ticket credit and I was told we could use it anytime, I was not told it had a expiration date on it. I am not in a position to wear I can just give funjet $600 I don't have a job. I would like to be refunded for my tickets. How can I just let funjet have $600 and I don't have any services from them. I really really need my money back. They should explain that to the customers .Desired Settlement: I just wish to be refunded for something I paid for and could not use to due a family emergency.

Please see my reply on [redacted]. Ms. [redacted] was booked with Ms. Jones who notified you that she was satisfied with my previous offer. We are considering this matter resolved as the reply was related to both women. The airline tickets were non-refundable from the moment these customers booked on our website and agreed to that policy. The only option we are giving at this point is the offer in my response to Ms. Jones's complaint.thank you,FUNJET VACATIONS[redacted]

Review: I am writing to inquire about a possible partial refund, or any other type of consideration for the extreme problems and calamity of errors that I encountered from your company.

I booked my honeymoon through southwest vacation website 6 months ago. The reservation was cancelled due to a cancelled flight about 1 month before my wedding. Southwest vacations said that I had to either pay for an additional night at the hotel for over $120 extra or cancel and re-book which would have cost over $1,000 dollars. After over 3 hours of phone calls I agreed to leave a day later and come back a day later for no additional cost. While I was extremely unhappy I agreed to the alternate itinerary.

Upon arriving to the hotel we were informed we were not in the system and we did not have a hotel room. After giving them the reservation itinerary they said that southwest vacations never sent them a revised booking. On our honeymoon and we did not have a hotel. That was a great conversation to have with my new wife. Sorry, "we don't have a hotel room that I paid for already because the company I booked with is horrible."

After over an hour trying to get ahold of someone at southwest vacations I was able to reach someone who said that the hotel had the information wrong. I was stuck in the middle without a hotel room on my honeymoon. About an hour later the hotel booked us into a room on our own dime until southwest vacations contacted the hotel.

This extreme inconvenience should never have happened for the price I paid for the vacation. The customer service agent was extremely unhelpful leaving a message on my phone the following day saying the hotel had given us a $100 good credit and room upgrade to a junior suite. BOTH OF WHICH I PAID FOR IN THE INITIAL RESERVATION! How disrespectful to claim they were trying to rectify the situation by giving me something that I already paid for.

On the trip home my fiancée and I were seated on OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE PLANE on our AirTran flights. On my honeymoon I couldn't even sit with my wife on our trip home. That was absolutely disgusting.

Overall I would never book anything through southwest vacations or anything associated with The Mark travel corporation. What a disappointing way to start our marriage with a honeymoon that should have been magical that was flawed and riddled with mistakes caused by your company.

Southwest Airlines has a reputation for taking care of their customers. In no way shape or form should they be associated with the mark travel corporation. They are giving them a bad name. I am also writing to Southwest Airlines to explain this situation and that they should do business with a company that reflects their commitment to customer service.

Thank you for your consideration,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: Partial refund, or any other type of consideration for problems caused by The mark travel corporation.
