Review: I made reservation at the Milburn hotel on July ** for one night stay (August *), confirmation # [redacted].

Due to unforeseen circumstances (my child got a tick bite), we could not take the trip to New York on August *. I called Milburn on the night of August * to cancel the reservation. I was asked to call back again next morning to speak with the [redacted].

I called next day on August * and spoke with the [redacted]. I asked to cancel the reservation or award me the credit of one night of stay at this hotel in the future. [redacted] said: "there is nothing we can do" but finally [redacted] offered: If the room I reserved is sold, I will not be charged; if the room is not sold, the accounting department could give the credit of the amount of the room rate for my future stay. I appreciated and accepted this offer.

After canceling my reservation on the phone with [redacted], I checked multiple times on the website of Milburn hotel about availability of room for the night of August *, the result was "unavailable". I called the hotel to make a reservation for the night of August * on my friend's behalf and was told all the rooms were sold out. I told the person at the front desk that I just canceled my reservation half an hour ago and the room should available for customer to book. The person at the front desk said they would not put the room for booking till 24 hours later. This is contradictory to [redacted]'s "there is nothing we can do." Milburn hotel should have made the canceled room available for other customer to book. As a customer, I cannot see why a product/service cannot be available after it is canceled especially considering the convenience of electronic booking system. I myself called the hotel after my cancellation and was told "all the rooms are sold out". When I contested that I just canceled one room and it would be available, I was told it cannot be sold till next morning.

I do not see any rationale in the handling of booking. It only hurts the customer's interest. It also puts Milburn's credibility in question. While they promised me a refund at the condition of the canceled room is sold, they did not even put the canceled room for sale. I demand Milburn to refund me $346.01 and keep their promise to the customer in the future.

I stayed at this hotel many times before and enjoyed our stay. It is unfortunate to experience the difficulty with the customer service of Milburn this time.
