The Movers Inc. Reviews (3)

Review: I hired The Movers to move my family and I from our apartment to our newly purchased home. Within an hour of the men moving us, they begin to slow down and complain about the quantity of items that needed to be moved. The referenced that they just finished a big job and this job was too large. Around 3 hours into the move, I was informed that there wasn’t enough room on the truck and that it was going to cost me “way more money” to finish moving me. I told the men that I needed to be moved so fine, I will pay the extra money. After about 6 hours the movers called another person to help them complete the move. However the move was never completed. Some items were moved but not everything. Example, my son’s bed was moved but not his mattress. Once at the home, the movers failed to put items back together and even damaged several of our furniture items. When I called to complain I was told by [redacted] that there was nothing that the movers can do. After a long often heated discussion, I was told the movers could come back the week to finish moving me but I would have to cover the additional cost. When I mention the lost that I would suffer and asked for the owner's contact information, [redacted], became rude and hung up the phone in my face.Desired Settlement: I feel the movers did not complete their obligation of moving complete items. If you are moving a bed, I expect the bed to be moved entirely without damage. This was not done. In addition I was over charged for the third guy that was sent to help the moving process. I was also told by [redacted] that the men moving me started their day at 7 that morning and my move was so late in the day that they were tired and had to stop the job. I was not responsible for scheduling the men, if poor planning was done on behalf of the Movers Management staff, I should not be affected. I would like to be made whole. I lost money and still had to complete the move myself to ensure I didn’t lose additionally.

Ms. [redacted] contacted The Movers, Inc. on August 8th regarding her relocation within Fond du Lac, WI. She stated that she was moving a 2 bedroom apartment from a second floor location to a single family residence. She described the quantity as being an average two bedroom apartment. In return, I explained that on average a two bedroom apartment moving from a second floor will cost approximately $4-600.00 and that local moving is computed on a hourly basis so final pricing will be largely dependent on the actual quantity being moved. The Movers, Inc. did not provide an in home estimate as it was not requested. On average a two bedroom apartment is about 4,000 lbs. and can be moved in approximately 5 hours so I scheduled her move for an afternoon position.

Our two man crew arrived at the apartment at 2:00 p.m. on August 29th. After taking a quick tour of the apartment they saw there was considerably more than what the average two bedroom apartment ordinarily would hold. In addition, there was a spare loft room which was not mentioned. On average each additional room will add approximately 1,000 lbs. Being that this additional room was a loft makes the relocation more time consuming due to the spiral staircase. Our crew fully loaded their truck and proceeded on to the new home. The crew estimated that they fit a little more than half of the shipment onto the one truck load. To speed up the unloading process they requested a third man to assist. Each man bills on an hourly basis, so it does not have an additional cost but expedites the service. The crew finished unloading at 8:45 p.m. Ordinarily the crew would have finished the move on Friday, August 30th, however our schedule was completely booked. Had we completed the full relocation I would anticipate final charges of approximately $1,400.00

The crew members stated that they were not aware of causing any damage, however Ms. [redacted] can file a claim for the selected standard valuation.

Ms. [redacted] told the crew members not to reassemble anything further due to the time restriction.

The quantity that was described over the phone was highly misleading compared to the actual amount that was moved and items that were left behind. The crew stated that if they moved everything it would have furnished a small three bedroom home. Local moving is an hourly service so final pricing will adjust accordingly with the quantity moved.

Please let me know if there are any further issues that I should address.

Thank You,

Quoted me $148 per hour to move 3 pieces of furniture. Was also billed for mileage, household protection and the "renting" of cartons. This was an extra $66.50 which was never mentioned beforehand.

Review: The estimate we were given to move the large articles from our existing house to the house we purchased was $1319.00. The day of the move we added no more than 5 smaller items, ie a globe, end table, mirror, and possibly a couple more like them. When the move was complete, the gentleman adding up our bill requested $2421.70. We have had 3 discussions with this company in an attempt to get an answer as to why there was such a large difference between the estimate and the actual charges and they have been unable to come up with one, but refuse to give us any kind of money back. Had the estimate been close to the actual cost, we would not have hired this company and looked elsewhere. We feel very strongly that the estimate should have been very close to the actual cost, as we showed them everything that we wanted moved and if they underestimated how much that would take, that isn't our fault. Without saying it directly, they are accusing us of adding lots of items that weren't part of the estimate, when the fact is, we did not.Desired Settlement: We feel that we may have added 1/2 hour of added work for the move, which would be about $100. Therefore we should be refunded the difference between the estimate and the actual charges minus the $100. Which would be a refund of $1002,70.

The Movers, Inc. provided an estimate to Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] on April 6th, 2015. They met with our sales representative and specified exactly what items were to be moved. The estimated quantity amounted to 8,000 lbs. which can fit into one truckload. Instead our crew members moved a total of two and a half truckloads which required more moving time, travel time and mileage. The [redacted]'s also requested additional packing services for items such as glass sheets, wall hangings, clock pendulum, etc., which has material costs and requires extra labor. The new home had smaller doorways and a turn in the stair case which required the refrigerator and bar style pool table to be disassembled. Normally these items do not require dis-assembly, therefore the additional labor was not factored into the estimate. Our driver explained the charges to the [redacted]'s and provided them with a copy of the bill of lading. They signed the bill and wrote a personal check on completion of the move. By signing the bill and endorsing a personal check they approved and authorized the services and amount due. The Movers, Inc. does not require a deposit or any type of prepayment as the contract is on a time and materials and the exact billing is computed on completion of the move.
