The North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, Inc Reviews (1)

I'm a nanny, and this past Sunday I was there with a former charge (age 2) and we went to the Fossil Dig. He found a little rock he liked, and I dug and found a gold shark tooth with a 67 on it. We were excited and took it to the front desk. I handed it over and they said I found the last one and went upstairs for the megalodon fossil that was the prize. It took a while, and when she came back downstairs she was frowning and said that the one left said 70 on it and that they needed to have a meeting and didn't give it to me. I gave my name and number and they said they would call. They didn't, so I emailed them the other night, and they said that I had been a victim of a joke or mistake, the 67 fossil had been claimed earlier in the summer. I asked for a consolation prize of a free membership or something, and they said no. I don't think that is fair, it wasn't my fault that the numbers were wrong. I did the dig correctly, found a gold tooth, and I am supposed to get a prize. I just want to be acknowledged, thanks.Desired SettlementThe megalodon fossil would be best, but really a free membership or a gift card to the gift shop would be good. Business Response The complainant turned in a token to win a prize during a promotion of our fossil dig site. The promotion was to find a golden tooth (shark tooth painted gold and with unique 2-digit number) and win a megalodon tooth. Complainant turned in golden tooth 67 - a token which had previously been turned in for the associated prize tooth earlier. I checked our records, responded as below. Complainant asked for a free membership. I declined. Complainant continued to express dissatisfaction. Complainant was acknowledged in timely manner via email and phone messages. I then offered 10 free admission passes and this resolution accepted by complainant. In future, should we run a promotion like this, we will take back the "golden tooth" token or any like token to prevent it from somehow re-circulating and presenting twice for redemption. Response from complainant - Oh, ok, that's disappointing. I was digging with my nanny charge and I found it. Would it be possible to have a consolation prize? Like a free membership or something? Just thought I'd ask. Thanks,On Thursday, October 10, 2013 4:29 PM, [redacted] wrote:Hi XXXXXXXXX. I've been briefed on the golden tooth that you turned in to the front desk. And I'm afraid that you may be the victim of someone's joke or mistake. You see, we put 2-digit numbers on the back of the golden teeth so that our members and guests could clearly identify a golden tooth. The tooth you presented, with the number 67 on the back, has previously been redeemed for the corresponding megalodon tooth earlier this summer. I'm sorry that this happened to you. Hope you have happy hunting in the fossil dig site! I did.
