The Northern Virginia Volleyball Association (NVVA) Reviews (1)

March 15, 2015
To whom it may concern,
This letter is in response to a complaint received about our Business, NVVA, through the Revdex.com. The Northern Virginia Volleyball Association, is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing volleyball opportunities to...

youth in the Northern Virginia Region. The organization was created in 1997 and since then, we have worked with over ten thousand kids through our programs. Please see a breakdown of our responses to the complaint we have received:- A good portion of our club teams practice in county space. These spaces are not defined by the county until after we hold tryouts for our teams. Our tournaments are managed by our region, the Chesapeake Region. It is the region policy to only let us know about acceptance in tournaments, up to 2 weeks before the tournament is about to happen. When parents and players sign a contract accepting an offer to play for NVVA, they are fully aware that we are not able to provide information about practice space and tournaments until the County or our Region releases the information. It is important to mention that once we offer a spot in one of our teams, parents and players have full right to refuse the offer and look for another club that has already released their practice and tournament schedule.
- We provide a formal curriculum of what is going to be taught during the season to our coaches so that the information can be taught to the athletes. There is a difference between club volleyball and house league and developmental programs. Club volleyball is for kids that are ready to take their game to the next level and our goal is to establish a communication channel regarding skills between coaches and athletes.
- We do not allow parents to be on the court with kids just like parents are not allowed to sit with their kids in Middle School and High School. If we allowed every parent to be on the courts with the kids, we would have to double the amount of court space needed to perform practices. We are fortunate enough to have our own facility, which no other club in the region has. Most of our players and athletes are grateful to at least have a little window, free wifi access, and other amenities in our gym for their comfort. No other club is able to provide that.
We completely support and trust the coaches we put in our gym and if we find out a coach is not a good fit, as in the case of this complaint, we attempt to act fast and find a proper replacement. In this case, it seems like even with a change in coaching staff, this parent was not happy with the treatment his/her kid was receiving. At this point it is hard for us to believe that this is just not a case of a parent with unrealistic expectations about his/her own kid. Every year, 900 to 1000 kids tryout for our club. Unfortunately we are only able to make offers to half of these kids. That said, by accepting an offer to play in one of our teams, the parent writing this complaint took an opportunity that could be given to one of the other 500 players that didn't have a place to play the sport they love. Besides that a non-profit organization, we have expenses with travel, uniforms, coaches, staff, Court rentals and etc that are budgeted at the beginning of the season for a certain amount of players. If an athlete decides to quit for unexpected reasons: health, financial of any other type of issues, we are more than willing to work with the family to make sure we are fair to their needs. This is not the reason in this case and we can not issue any refunds. Even though we could, by the contract signed by this family, we are not going to legally protest the remaining balance in this player's account but we will keep the balance in the players NVVA account blocking this athlete to participate in any activity managed by our club, until full payment is made.
Regards,NVVA Staff
