near work.  She chose to get a progressive addition lens (PAL) which is a lens that has a gradual change of power from the top to the bottom to allow the patient to see far away and also near without having a bifocal line.   She was not able to get used to the first PAL, and was rechecked by the doctor who adjusted the measurements and powers.  She still was not able to adapt to the PAL, so the doctor changed the lens style to a round bifocal because the patient did not want a visible bifocal line.  Unfortunately, some people are not able to adapt to the design of the PAL.  She was also not able to get used to the round bifocal.  We tried our best to satisfy the patient, making the glasses three times for her.The husband was also seen for a complete eye examination and chose to have retinal imaging done for $37.  His main complaint was decreased near vision.  Single vision glasses for near were made for him.  He came back and stated that he needed to see the computer which was a few inches beyond arm’s length and deskwork.  The doctor adjusted the powers and prescribed bifocals that would help him see at both intermediate and near range.   She demonstrated the powers with trial lenses so that he could see what the vision would be like.  In the end, the patient did not like either pair of glasses. It is our office policy that all sales are final on prescription lenses and eyeglass frames.  Eyeglass lenses are custom made for each patient and we have to pay the laboratory to manufacture them.  In the case of these patients, we did take action to refund them.  On 10/24/2017 we communicated with the credit card company to issue a credit of $602.52.  After calling merchant services today, I found out that they were only issued part of that amount ($347.92) and we will email the patients and let them know this.  (Please see the attached copy of the email)The patients originally paid $860.92 for their eye examinations and glasses.   We are willing to refund the patients all charges minus the copays.  The amount that we are keeping $77 is to cover the following:Exam Copay (wife): $10Materials Copay (wife): $10Exam Copay (husband): $10Materials Copay (husband): $10Optos Retinal Imaging: $37It is unfortunate that these patients could not get used to the design of these lenses.  We are only asking that they pay their copays and retinal imaging fee.   We do feel that we provided them with quality eye examinations and products. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any further questions.  Thank you.  Sincerely,[redacted]
