The Paper Reviews (1)

Review: I submitted paper work for a name change to The Paper to be ran in their paper for four weeks. I was told by [redacted], the publisher to take my court papers to The Computer Source, who collects it and then faxes it to The Paper's office. I called the day I dropped off my information (which included a personal check for $100) and confirmed that I dropped it off. I spoke to [redacted] at The Paper who told me that it would run beginning October 31 and she would send me confirmation paperwork when the four weeks were completed to take to court (she would mail it out on November 20th, so that I received it on the 21st). I did not receive any paperwork in the mail as I was told would happen after the four weeks. I called The Paper and spoke with [redacted] again and, who remembered speaking to me but couldn't find any paperwork on my name change. She then spoke to [redacted]. No one could find my paper work or my check. I had to then rearrange a court date and also delay DMV processes due to the poor service of The Paper. I called on November 26 and spoke to [redacted]. I asked if they had found my papers. I was told no. He was incredibly rude. I told him I was very concerned that they lost paperwork with my personal information on it as well as a check with information ( they did not cash the check). He asked what my point was and what I would like done. I replied that I felt they should run my notice with no fee. He said "That isn't going to happen" and hung up on me.

I feel this is very poor service...and that when personal information is involved, they should take a bit more care in their paper work. I am very concerned about my information just "disappearing" from their offices.Desired Settlement: I would like the notice run free of charge and an apology for their carelessness.

Response:

We've received a copy of the complaint filed by [redacted] and reviewed same.

We agree with most of her allegations up to the sentence "I called on November 26 and spoke to [redacted]. I asked if they had found my papers. I was told no. He was incredibly rude."

Not true.

I explained to her that we had not found either her paperwork or her check; that we had checked with The Computer Factory and they did not have her paperwork or check. Presumably they had faxed over the paperwork and presumably the hard copy of the paperwork and check was picked up subsequently.

That is where the mystery begins and ends. We did not cash her check so obviously did not have it in our possession . . . nor do we still.

I explained that we had owned The Paper for 15 years and this was the first time this had ever happened and we simply did not know where her paper work and check were.

I was not "incredibly rude." I gave her answers that she may not have wanted to hear, but were factual.

If anyone was rude it was Ms. [redacted]. She was fairly shrieking at me over the phone and demanded we run her information without fee. We were not, and are not, willing to do that. I do not recall hanging up on her but I have hung up on people who were screaming and shouting rather than carry on a civil conversation.

We apologize for the paperwork and check disappearing but have no answer as to how that came about. Since the check has not been cashed Ms. [redacted] has not suffered any financial damages.

We cannot publish her legal information if we do not possess it.

We are not willing to re-run the legal notices without fee.

Sincerely,

Response:

I am not accepting their resolution, however, I have better things to do with my time than get into a "he said/she said" debate over each other's tones. What worries me is that my personal information and check are in a pile of paperwork somewhere to be "discovered" at a later date. I would like assurances that if it is found, I will be contacted so that I can pick it up and destroy is myself.
