The Pet Warehouse Reviews (%countItem)

Pet Warehouse knowing sold me a sick puppy. I heard an associate tell another couple that the dogs runny nose was normal. It's not.
On 7/20/2019 I purchased a puppy from pet warehouse on western. Manager and associates alike stated all puppies are vet checked and in good health. This was not the case. The same night the puppy was showing signs of an upper respiratory infection. I had to take him to the vet where they confirmed that was the case and it is extremely infectious. I brought this puppy into my home with the idea from the associates that it was healthy. It is not. And the puppy has given my other dog an infection as well. It has spread. There has been numerous vet visits not just for the puppy but for my other dog as well. I heard an associate tell another couple that was purchasing a puppy that the discharge from the dogs nose was normal. It's not.,This illness has taken a toll on my whole family. The puppy my older dog my son my work .

Desired Outcome

I want a complete refund

The Pet Warehouse Response • Aug 05, 2019

In response to Miss ***'s complaint. The puppy in question was not showing any symptoms of an upper respiratory infection at time of purchase, if he had been he would not have been sold.
Our veterinarian sees our puppies the next day after we receive them at the store.
Miss *** did contact us and brought in veterinary bills on Monday July 29 2019. We refunded Miss *** the money she paid for the vet in the amount of $221.44. Even though the warranty
states we do not pay vet fees the, the warranty that Miss *** read and signed prior to purchase, we do make certain exceptions based on individual cases.
Miss *** never requested a refund on the puppy. If she is unhappy we would be more than happy to give her a complete refund of the price of the puppy with return of the puppy to the store.
Which is what Miss *** has asked for.
Have her contact us before returning the puppy to the store so that she may be promptly taken of.

I would like a complete refund. The puppy in question will not be going back. He's already almost died once. I have invested time, energy and money into him. Failure to provide correct health issues as well as being lied to about the puppy's health. Not only do I have a sick puppy but he has transferred the infection to my other dog, which has medical bills as well as being deathly ill. I heard the staff say that the yellow nasal discharge was normal, when I came back in. It is not. The lack of sympathy, lies and selling of sick dogs must stop. The puppies that were there when I came back were sick as well especially the gsd that they also said was normal for yellow nose discharge. Then the manager thought she knew more than my vet. I would like a full refund. Dog not going back or at least half of what I paid for him for remaining vet bills for him and my other dog.

In response to Miss ***s request. She may set up an appointment with the store manager to bring in her I submitted vet bills so we may help her with them. It will only be done by appointment.
Thank you

They sell dogs who are sick and they do not properly treat or help consumers who have purchased a sick dog.
I recently bought a Miniature Pinscher, of which they claimed it was old enough to leave the mother but I do not believe this to be true because of its size and health. The dog was not yet weened and had trouble eating and drinking. I immediately mad an appointment with my vet for a wellness exam and it was found that the dog had a parasite, coccidia. I alerted the company so that they could warn others as it is highly contagious. Only days after the warranty expired, 10 days, the dog had started to show signs of kennel cough. The dog is being treated but because it is a small breed and was sold at such a young age the dog is struggling to combat the illness. The business practices are absolutely immoral and the health of the dogs they are selling is not acceptable. They need to be checked out and never be allowed to sell animals. Not only is my dog severely ill, and my not make it, it is compromising the health of other dogs in my home because they do not check their animals or care for them in a manner that benefits the health and safety of pets sold by them.

Desired Outcome

I would like the money back that I paid and vet/med costs for each dog in my home, including the dog I purchased. This was completely avoidable had they actually checked each dog before selling.

In response to Miss ***'s concern I would like to clarify a few things. First Miss *** knew the puppy was coming straight from the breeder when she purchased it. Even with that we still offer up a warranty on the puppies. The puppy was old enough to home. It is noted in the warranty that we do not pay vet expenses and do not cover anything that is treatable. We do offer help for medications if needed.
Miss *** received the puppy within 30 minutes of arriving to the store. She had the dog 10 days before a kennel cough issue arose which clearly indicates that it was not from the store.
Further she did call the store and claimed that the puppy had a collapsed trachea and had to be put to sleep not that it had kennel cough and was being treated. At this claim we did require a vet statement to that prove that claim which she could not provide.
Miss *** may return the puppy to us and will offer a refund on the puppy only even tho our warranty clearly states we do not give refunds.
Or she may come in with vet documentation and we will pay for her medication on the puppy only.
We would like to assure everyone that our animals are as our personal babies and go above and beyond to take care of them.
We have our own vet to oversee the care and are inspected numerous times a year to make sure we are following every guideline.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

While the store has since refunded the price of the dog, it does not fix the issue at hand. The paperwork has since been provided to the store regarding the dog's diagnoses of right tracheal collapse. The store manager has tried to "lessen" the horrible reality by claiming her dogs also have a cough and are fine. What I tried to explain is that this is not a cough, this has to do with the cartilage rings within the trachea, they are almost completely collapsed, meaning as the dog continues to grow, the trachea will not, resulting in the dogs unfortunate death. A basic college anatomy class would teach you that. The fact that the owner/manager does not understand basic anatomy is outstanding to me. How can you sell animals and know nothing about basic anatomy?
The dog has been to the vet again for another opinion on her condition. The dog will most likely not make it past a couple months. I am requesting the store to provide me with all of the breeder's information. I believe the breeder is not providing a safe or healthy environment for their animals. Our family is devastated and the store's "bring it back and we will get you new one" policy is absolutely disgusting. A 10 day warranty is a complete joke.
Upon my first visit I was provided the puppy I wanted in a separate room to play and get to know the dog. ***, an employee from the store gave the dog I had told her I wanted to purchase to another customer who then decided they were going to buy her. The store tried to "make it right" by contacting the breeder to bring another dog within a couple hours. I was NEVER told she was not seen by a vet and I was told all of their dogs are checked by a vet and come vaccinated. This dog was clearly taken from the mother too early and was NEVER checked. I was given a dog with a "death sentence" because of their employee pushing sales and giving the dog I had originally tried to purchase, I am now going through one of the most devastating times of my life. How are you willing to make it right? This store should be shut down and the breeder needs to be reported and checked out for possible over breeding and mistreatment of their animals. No animal should go through this our hearts are broken.

I would like to respond to Miss ***'s statement.
First please understand that it was not Miss *** in the store looking at the first puppy it was another person with their friend. The friend that came in with the other person said that she wasn't taking anymore animals home and the first puppy was handed back to the employee at which time there was a customer waiting to see her. In the process of Miss *** and the other person trying to figure out what to do the other customer purchased the first puppy.
We did offer to help by getting the last 2 puppies in the litter for her. She agreed we called Miss *** as soon as the puppies arrived. The other person came in within 30 minutes of puppy arrival and purchased one of those puppies. Clearly there was no time for a vet to see them Saturday evening. They were aware that they were basically coming straight from the breeder. And were old enough to rehome. Miss ***'s first visit to her vet did not show anything with the trachea. The puppy had an intestinal parasite that was treated.
We did receive a copy of the lab report from Miss ***. The lab report does recommend to evaluate the extent and severity of the condition that further testing is needed.
Collapsible tracheas are a fairly common condition in very small breed dogs. I have personally had numerous dogs with this condition ranging from mild to severe. All lived long lives.
As with children there are no guarantees that your child will be perfect and have no defects or illnesses. It is the same in animals.
The other puppies in that litter are perfectly fine no issues, no kennel cough etc.
We offer up a 10 day warranty, not a 10 day guarantee. There is unfortunately no way of completely guaranteeing that there will never be issue. We have re-written our warranty several times over the years to be more accommodating to certain conditions that can occur.
When purchasing direct from a breeder warranties are seldom offered.
The breeder is *** lives in North Carolina. We have not had a problem with her puppies before. We did contact her and she is giving us a replacement when available. This is one breeder who does take care of their dogs and the people they sell to.
We have already given Miss *** a full refund on the puppy (even tho she was well passed her warranty period when she contacted us about the trachea) we do go above and beyond past the warranty to help our customers. We give Miss *** all our best wishes for her and her puppy to be okay.
Thank you for your time

I was sold a puppy that was sick with parvo, after being told the dog had been vaccinated when it wasn't. The place also had a bad smell.
I purchased the puppy on Friday 1/19/2018. I was told that my dog was very healthy and he had shots. The employee told me that I had ten days to get him to the vet, and checked out before my warranty was up. I was also given papers saying this that I had to sign. My puppy began to be very sick, he would not drink or eat anything after the first day of having him. His stool was bloody and he was constantly puking. This day I just thought he may have been constipated so I made his appointment for the next day. I had to bring him in sooner because he began to foam out of the mouth. I paid cash for this puppy, which was just about $1,000 dollars. When I got to the vet I had to pay $88 dollars for a parvo test which came out positive. The vet reached out to the store and was told that the puppy should have never been sold. The puppy was in very critical condition. The pet store told us to bring him back to them.

Desired Outcome

I would like for this store to carry healthy puppies and be more clean so that the germs will not spread. Since parvo is very contagious. Also honesty is always the best policy, we were told our pup was very healthy, registered and vaccinated but he was not.

The Pet Warehouse Response • Jan 26, 2018

We are very sorry for Mr. issue with his chihuahua puppy. To clarify he purchased the puppy on 1-18-18 (we received on the 16th and was seen by our vet on the 17th) and he took to his vet on 1-23-18. Mr. did return the puppy for a full refund which he accepted. Incidents with our puppies are an extremely small percentage of what we find homes for. We do tell all of our customers that if there is any problem that they contact us immediately so we can address the issue. For correction all of our puppies are up to date on vaccinations and wormings. We have a veterinarian that comes to the store to check the new arrivals and also run fecal tests to check for intestinal parasites. No problem was found at this time with the puppy in question. As with humans unfortunately there are no 100% guarantees that nothing will ever happen to any pet. In the unlikely event that something does happen we are here to help and work with the customer to rectify the issue. We do have a warranty that is designed to do just that. As far as the parvo snap test that a lot of vets use, it can produce false results and the puppy may have something else that can cause similar symptoms. We also have this in our warranty. We are inspected numerous times per year and follow all the requirements and guidelines for care and cleaning of the pets and their cages. We do apologize for the animal smell that may be present but we do carry pets and with that does come some pet odors.
Once again we do apologize most sincerely to Mr. for any upset this may have caused him.
And we assure everyone that we do everything in our power to keep any issues with their new pets from happening.
We thank all of our customers for their patronage and appreciate any concerns being brought to our attention so that we may serve you better.
