The Philadelphia Barber School Reviews (1)

3/28/2017To Whom it May Concern:I am writing this letter in response to a complaint received from a former student on 3/22/17. The former student was requesting a refund of $450.00 for books and uniform ($300.00) and registration fee ($150.00) because Philadelphia Barber School "falsely advertised...

the program” and she wasn't satisfied with the program, I am unable to address the allegations made against the school in regards to the program being falsely advertised as she was vague with the Statement and didn't specify any reasons.Philadelphia Barber School has a successful program, and has in fact exceeded the placement, licensure, and completion rates needed to achieve to meet accreditation. The school's recent annual report data shows a completion rate is 78.57%, placement rate of 100%, and licensure rate of 75%. The minimum standards are 50%, 60%, and 70% respectively. The student enrolled in our January 2017 class. She did pay $1,145.00 ($300.00 for books and uniform, $150.00 for registration fee, and $695.00 for kit). She signed a contract, which includes and explains the School refund and cancellation policy. I have enclosed a copy of the signed enrollment agreement. On the student's first day of class, she received all her books as well as her uniform which was a barber jacket. She was absent the next day (2 day), came to school the third day, and was absent again the next 2 school days. She came back and attended four more days and then stopped attending. The School Administrator spoke to her during these times and she student) gave various reasons why she was absent for three days, none of which did she mention that she was dissatisfied. All of the reasons given were personal. Her last date of attendance was 1/28/17. When the School Administrator noticed her absent for over 5 days, she spoke to the student. Student stated that she wasn't sure she wanted to continue due to financial reasons. The School Administrator advised student to set appointment and come in the following week to discuss in person. Student did not make appointment or come in. Student eventually came in and met with me later in February and we discussed options to assist with helping her pay for her education, as well as a position within the school so that she can continue to be a barber student as well as make some money She said she would think about it, received a free haircut before leaving the school, and communicated with me personally via the School [redacted] account that she wished to withdrawal, told her to come in to write a letter for her file. She did this on 2/28/17.The student was an unofficial withdrawal as of 2/14/17 since she missed 10 consecutive school days. Her scheduled hours as of this date were 56 and actual hours were 29. Per our refund policy stated on the first page of our enrollment agreement, she should be charged 20% of her contracted tuition since she attended between .0% to 4.9%. The School understands that the program may not be a good fit for everyone, and decided against charging her $1,390.00 for only 29 hours. The School refunded the kit cost of $695.00 since she did not receive it. As noted on the first page of our enrollment agreement, Philadeiphia Barber School has 45 days from her withdrawal date to refund any money to student. We issued a refund to the student on 3/9/17. She did receive her books and uniform, so we will not refund her for items she received and has possession of. Her registration fee is nonrefundable per her contract as she started the program and didn't cancel within three days of signing her contract.I hope this letter clarifies why the student was refunded $695.00 of her original $1,145.00 deposit and why we do not agree in refunding her the additional $450.00 that she is requesting,If you need any additional information regarding this matter, please feel to contact me at the school at ([redacted]) [redacted] or e-mail meat [email protected],Alama GChief Executive Officer
