12/30/14[redacted]: [redacted] was seen at The Podiatry Care Center for an initial consultation on April 24, 2014. She returned on May 1, 2014 for a soft tissue procedure and biopsy requiring local anesthesia. As with all our post-operative patients we schedule a follow-up...

appointment within 1-3 weeks after the procedure to assess the healing of the area and to discuss results of any testing performed as a result of the procedure. This was the case for [redacted] as well when she returned on May 15, 2014 for her post-operative visit.In contrast to her letter which stated, “In 2 weeks I returned to the office, and spent less than 5 minutes in the office total for the doctor to evaluate HER work before leaving." I not only examined the wound site to assess healing I also informed her of the biopsy results, interpreted the diagnosis, gave her the prognosis for the condition, recommended the proper care for her foot post-operatively and answered all of her questions. At the time of the post-operative visit I definitely discussed with [redacted] the high probability that the condition would return.Also according to [redacted]'s complaint she felt she should have been informed that there would be an additional cost for the observation. If her insurance company felt the follow-up visit was within the patient's global period or an unsubstantial claim they would not have instructed our billing manager to bill the patient. The insurance plan chosen by [redacted] has an extremely high deductible which is why she was billed the allowed amounts for the services I provided and the insurance carrier did not pay any of the claims we submitted to them on her behalf.It is unfortunate that [redacted] feels she is being charged for a visit that was unnecessary because I do not participate in fraudulent billing practices. Instead I pride myself of informing patient's of their options, proper follow-up care and discussing with patient's the expected prognosis and outcomes.
