I dropped off my *** *** ** to have its cracked screen replaced on 3/26/15, and I picked it up 4/9/15; this service cost $On 9/8/15, I had to go back because the screen was flickering and detaching in the bottom-left corner, a persistent new problem that I had not experienced prior to having my phone serviced at Phontronics in AprilThe technician said the adhesive used in April wasn't strong enough and confirmed that the problem resulted from Phontronics' workThe technician proceeded with repairing the phone using a different kind of adhesiveI paid $for this second repair, even though Phontronics already claimed responsibility for the problemI already acknowledged the warranty period had passed and expected this to be fixed on Phontronics' dime as I had not done anything to damage their workInstead, I was given a $creditIn the days following my 2nd replacement, I noticed the bottom-left corner continued to pop out, detaching from the phone in the exact same spotBy October, it was fully unattached, and the LCD screen started flickering just like it did after the original repair in AprilI tried my best to make do with the phone, avoiding a third repair and hoping I could make it work until my next upgradeI emailed this information to Phontronics on 11/13/15, asking them to remedy the situation since their repair work was not successfulI requested a reply via email because the flickering LCD screen wouldn't turn on all the time (despite the phone being powered on and ringing)I said I would not take time out of my schedule to drive to their location unless I had it in writing that Phontronics would fix its error at no cost to meMr*** did not reply to my email; he called and argued with me insteadLuckily the screen turned on when the phone rang and I was able to answer itHe demanded in a strong, reprimanding voice that I visit Saturday, 11/14/"at am sharp" and gave me a verbal agreement that he would "take care of it"I asked what that meant, and he wouldn't say specificallyReluctantly, I went into their shop at precisely am as requested, but Mr*** refused to help meHis reasoning was a small chip/nick in the screen, but I stated the chip wasn't why I was there, and I don't want to have the chip fixedI reiterated that, per our phone conversation, the issue was the flickering screen and its detachment from the adhesive, and that the chip had nothing to do with the problem I was there forI stated that the information I received does not say the warranty is void with a crack; just that cracks aren't covered under warrantyAll I wanted was for Mr*** to fix the screen popping off, not replace with new glassHe said the screen may come apart in the small cracked area and asked if I would be okay with thatI said yes, because it was such a small area that it wouldn't affect the operation or performance of the phoneMr*** laughed at me and said I must drop my phone a lotFirst of all, I find his laughter incredibly rude, degrading, and unprofessionalSecondly, I don't drop my phone often; only one time in years have I dropped it and ruined the screenThirdly, what does my dropping a phone have to do with anything? Wouldn't that mean more business for Phontronics if that was the case?
Fed up, I finally just asked, "Are you going to fix it or not?" Mr*** smiled and said, "No" so I walked outAs I predicted, going to Phontronics that morning was a total waste of timeI don't know why Mr*** gave a verbal agreement and asked me to come in if he knew during the phone call that he wasn't going to help meIn the end, I paid to upgrade early and got a new phoneHad I known the amount of stress and trouble Phontronics would have caused, I never would have gone there in the first place, and saved myself $and a lot of time and energyWhen I relayed my experience to my phone carrier's retail location (whose sales reps originally recommended Phontronics because Mr*** brought them candy bars), the reps and the store manager were astounded and vowed to stop referring customers to PhontronicsI certainly hope there aren't other customers dealing with these same issues and am glad there's one less referral for PhontronicsThere is a Schaumburg location, to which I cannot speak, but since Mr*** owns the business I would assume it's not any differentThis review is coming a few months late because I was initially too upset to articulate my experience, and Phontronics wasn't even listed on Revdex.com's website (that should have been my first clue)I absolutely do not recommend Phontronics Wheaton based on my three visits to their store over the course of monthsMr*** doesn't stand behind his technicians' work, is verbally aggressive, unethical, offensive, bad-mannered, and straight up shadyI had so much anxiety any time I had to speak with him because he was so confrontational, refusing to accept any sort of responsibility for the issue
