Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Mr [redacted] refers to our lot in his reply to my complaint as a country lotWe live in the [redacted] subdivision in the town of Burke just west of Sun PrairieThere are houses all around us with the exception of a vacant lot next to usThe nylon banding referred to by Mr [redacted] is Arnco Bull line made by Dura Line a non-biodegradeable polyester which none of the four landscape companies I talked to said they would use to secure a tree because it’s made to stretch and will cut into the trunk of trees or plants.Mr [redacted] says he gives clients instruction to remove the banding after one year or the trees will perishMr [redacted] was not present at the planting of any of the trees his company put in for us, the plantings were put in by two young menNeither Mr [redacted] or the two workers gave me or my wife any instruction to remove this banding, we were not even told any type of banding was on the trees and we were not given an option to stake the trees as Mr [redacted] says in his replyAnd why would this be a greater expense than securing the trees underground like they did? The two workers did instruct us to water the treesThe contract did call for mulch to be put around the trees, but that was never done, the trees were only covered with dirtI removed all of the banding on five trees planted when we discovered three of the trees were dying seven years later and I dug down to the base of the trees and found the banding cut into the trunks of the trees strangling themThe four landscape companies I mentioned earlier were all dismayed that a professional landscaper would use this method to secure a tree with this material and all of them said they had never seen it used before, one of them said he had been in the landscape business for forty plus years.Even with all of this said, why should the client who is paying a significant amount of money to have the work done be responsible for one of the most important steps in the process as Mr [redacted] refers to itIf a professional landscaper is to use such a method they should at least give the client written instructions to remove any such bands after a specified timeWe were given nothing in writing regarding the future upkeep of the treesPerhaps this is why by his own admission several homeowners have called back wanting to replace the plantings at their own expense when they forgot this important step.Regarding the guarantee referred to, there was no insistence on our part that there be none, it was simply mentioned by Mr [redacted] that we could save money by not having a one year guarantee on the plantings.Thank you, [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Mr. [redacted] refers to our lot in his reply to my complaint as a country lot. We live in the [redacted] subdivision in the town of Burke just west of Sun Prairie. There are houses all around us with the exception of a vacant lot next to us. The nylon banding referred to by Mr. [redacted] is Arnco Bull line made by Dura Line a non-biodegradeable polyester which none of the four landscape companies I talked to said they would use to secure a tree because it’s made to stretch and will cut into the trunk of trees or plants.Mr. [redacted] says he gives clients instruction to remove the banding after one year or the trees will perish. Mr. [redacted] was not present at the planting of any of the trees his company put in for us, the plantings were put in by two young men. Neither Mr. [redacted] or the two workers gave me or my wife any instruction to remove this banding, we were not even told any type of banding was on the trees and we were not given an option to stake the trees as Mr. [redacted] says in his reply. And why would this be a greater expense than securing the trees underground like they did? The two workers did instruct us to water the trees. The contract did call for mulch to be put around the trees, but that was never done, the trees were only covered with dirt. I removed all of the banding on five trees planted when we discovered three of the trees were dying seven years later and I dug down to the base of the trees and found the banding cut into the trunks of the trees strangling them. The four landscape companies I mentioned earlier were all dismayed that a professional landscaper would use this method to secure a tree with this material and all of them said they had never seen it used before, one of them said he had been in the landscape business for forty plus years.Even with all of this said, why should the client who is paying a significant amount of money to have the work done be responsible for one of the most important steps in the process as Mr. [redacted] refers to it. If a professional landscaper is to use such a method they should at least give the client written instructions to remove any such bands after a specified time. We were given nothing in writing regarding the future upkeep of the trees. Perhaps this is why by his own admission several homeowners have called back wanting to replace the plantings at their own expense when they forgot this important step.Regarding the guarantee referred to, there was no insistence on our part that there be none, it was simply mentioned by Mr. [redacted] that we could save money by not having a one year guarantee on the plantings.Thank you,
[redacted]

I did contract to do Landscape work with the [redacted]

We did many rounds of bid work back and forth and installed trees in 2006 and 2007. The site is a country lot with heavy winds + no wind-break and I do plant trees with the nylon banding left around the base and give instruction to all clients that this banding must be removed after one year.  If not the trees will perish.

The banding is left to stabilize the weight of the root mass with the leafy canopy of the tree helping to keep the tree trunk solid and straight in the ground until the following spring season. The other trees in the [redacted] yard that I planted have had the banding cut and I did not cut those bands. The customers making this complaint forgot to cut the banding on these trees and contacted me 7 to 8 years after the date of install and or written guarantee.

Tree-staking was also an option offered to the [redacted], the cost was too great during planting. Note: specific instruction was given to the complainant 10-11-2006 when a large caliper Red Oak was planted.  The tree was top heavy and needed the banding left on while it settled after planting. This tree had the bands cut and my Company did not cut the banding.

Also Note: that the customers that filed this complaint also have trees planted by my Business and requested NO guarantee on them as a money saving option at their insistence:  Contract dated 4-23-2007.

I have been in the green industry for 25+ years and have never had this request/complaint from any homeowner. Several have called and wanted to replace plantings, at their expense, having forgot the step that the [redacted] have forgotten.

Thank you for your consideration,

Please call with the need for any further information from me
