The Range at Lake Norman Reviews (%countItem)

Installed new parts and did it incorrectly and caused damages to customer provided parts and not willing to repair.
I dropped of my Bushmaster AR-15 to have a handrail that I provided installed ($50 in value). It took a week for the work to be completed and I paid $120 for the install. 2 weeks later, I went to shoot and the entire rail started spinning. I had another professional gunsmith evaluate the firearm. It was discovered that the rail was installed incorrectly and had damaged the handrail to the point it is un-repairable. Upon to speaking Brian he asked for me to drop it off. Dropped it of and told him to evaluate and no work on the firearm. The next day, called and Brian would not answer, Began texting him and he stated they were able to put in a new screw and it is fine. The screw does fix it due to threads being stripped completely. He is fighting and saying that he is done dealing with and this is what is.

Desired Outcome

I am looking for the refund of $120 for the service charge and re-reimbursement of $50 or a 15 inch quadrail or equal value.

The Range at Lake Norman Response • Apr 11, 2019

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding this issue.

The customer dropped his AR15 off at The Range at Lake Norman on 3/1/19 to have a handguard he had purchased elsewhere installed on a firearm. Upon dropping it off he signed a *** ticket that said all repairs can take up to 14 days. On 3/6/19, the customer picked up the firearm. The charge was $120.00 plus tax.

On 4/1/19, the customer called in and talked with a staff member and said he had been shooting the firearm and the handguard was moving while shooting. Our staff member asked him to bring the gun in and please do not shoot it again, before bringing it in, so we could see what it was doing. The staff member told the customer, chances are the set screw had come loose.

On 4/4/19, Mr *** contacted me via text and stated that he had a friend look at the firearm and that the handguard was damaged and needed to be replaced. I asked Mr. to bring the rifle in so we could look at it,and fix it. If it was not repairable we would replace the handguard with a comparable handguard.

\Mr. had his girlfriend drop off the AR upper and handguard on the afternoon of 4/4/19. I immediately examined the handguard, and determine the set screw had been loosened from its mounting and had loosened itself to the point of almost falling out. In the process, the threads on the set screw had been worn.

On 4/5/19, our armorer took the handguard, removed the set screw, installed the new set screw, using Loctite, and tested the AR upper. Our Armorer shot 40 rounds through the rifle with no issues, it performed as it should have. I then contacted Mr. and informed him his upper was repaired and "good as new". He then became enraged and proceeded on a rampage about how he told me not to fix it, that he wanted a new handguard and he wanted to be refunded in full for the work performed over a month ago. I explained that I told him if the Handguard was damaged, we would repair or replace it. The handguard was not damaged, the set screw was slightly stripped and the black coating had come off, so we replaced the set screw on the handguard and reblued the scratches.

I told Mr *** I would be happy to meet with him either prior to 5:00pm on 4/5/19 or around 10:30am on 4/6/19.

Even though Mr *** had the firearm for over 30 days before he informed us he had a problem with it and shot it at least twice at our range, and because we could not know what had happened to it in that 30 day period, we still went out of our way to accommodate Mr., as we do with all of our customers, to ensure that our work is the highest quality.

Mr *** it appears has purchased an inferior product and was dissatisfied when he realized that and wanted our facility to correct his mistake at no cost to him. Because we did not sell him the original handguard, and do not carry that product due to its poor quality, we did all we could to correct the issue. However, replacing the product when it was not purchased from us and was not defective when we returned it to Mr, ***, is outside of our store policies.
