The Remington Room Reviews (%countItem)

I would like to let this bureau know that I had booked this venue for a bridal shower originally set for April 12th, 2020 and then due to personal reasons I rescheduled to April 5th, 2020. However, the Coronavirus pandemic happened and canceled everything. I attempted to reschedule to May 29th in hopes of things settling down and being able to have a party by then but also let the owner know that that date may not be the best for me because I was planning to travel overseas for my wedding around the same time, so literally those 2 weekends in April were the only weekends that worked. The owner has now let me know that per the governor that I may still proceed with a 100 person party against regulations per my research. However, I let the owner know that my fiance and I decided to go ahead with a quarantined wedding with our immediate family members and am in the process of moving to Texas therefore I no longer need the venue and requested a refund. She proceeds to tell me that I can keep a credit with them good for up to 2 years and I told her I don't need the venue since I am moving. She then recommends keeping it for a future baby shower as if she knows that I can even conceive'? That's not very professional in my opinion. As well as telling me to give the credit to a friend and forcing a friend to pay me my own money back'? There's no way. After a conversation she proceeded to state she received no type of government assistance (which I know she most likely applied for unemployment) and just wished me a good life in Texas.

Desired Outcome

Refund My desired resolution is to get my money back in which I paid her $650 for the venue. Per the contract that I signed it states that my $250 is non refundable, but says nothing about the remainder $400 that I paid. I would prefer a full refund but a refund of $400 would also satisfy me. Also would like to see some sort of regulatory action as she is approving parties of 100 people to still go on against rules provided by our state about no gatherings of 50 or more.

Customer signed a contract stating Deposit was non refundable and any cancelation within 60 days made nothing refundable. (Legally binding contract attached.) Customer requested a date change and I allowed this with NO PENALTY and moved the deposit for them. Covid-19 hit and event was canceled due to Government recommendations. While by contract I do not have to refund anything, I willingly have offered all 80 cancellations including this one a full credit to use for up to two years. Client then decided to use the credit to rebook May 29. When I reached out two weeks prior to discuss the event, the client informed me they didn't need the hall and had just reserved it "In case anything changed." She said "there has been so much going on I hadn't gotten the chance to reach out to you." By once again canceling the NEW event date within 2 weeks, client is DEFINITELY not eligible for any kind of refund.. However, I did tell her I would honor the Covid-19 policy of a credit which could even be transferable for up to 2 years... Which was way beyond what was contractually expected and extremely generous...

Customer Response • May 19, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept this response because there is no way any of this happening is my fault. Contract or not, this pandemic has canceled everything for everyone. I would understand keeping this credit for 2 years if I was living in the state after the end of this month. But I have no use of this facility from now up to 2 years from now, and simply replying to my message and wishing me well in Texas and basically just taking $650 out of my pockets like that is something I will not accept. The business hasn't provided me with any formal Covid-19 policy except via text message which doesn't validate it as any part of a contract signed. Also even with the contract signed everyone's parties were canceled within 60 days due to the pandemic which again makes it no one's own personal fault. I did not have time to reach out to the business due to getting married at home, packing my items, making constant sure I wasn't getting any of my family sick with being in and out of the house, looking for an apartment down in Texas and gathering all of the proper paperwork and now planning to move there at the end of this month.

The Remington Room Response • May 19, 2020

Bottom line. The final date of May 29 was canceled by the client. TN is allowing events to happen in auditoriums starting May 22. We offered to host this event as booked giving the client an extra room for free to adhere to socially distancing practices. She broke the contract NOT due to Covid this time. We will be herby standing by the original contract terms and are no longer granting any credit to this client under the Covid policy since it technically isn't a Covid cancellation now. We were just trying to be as generous as we could in this bad situation.
