I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***.So far, Republic has fixed the roof flashing and it appears to be fixed well. Our bathroom has yet to have anybody willing to fix it. I'm still waiting to have Republic address this issue to its completion. It's taking way too long since I've been waiting several months so far to have this fixed.*** ***

We are sorry to read that the owner,Mr [redacted] will not accept and take responsibility for the actions of his employee. We definately did not confuse his company with another as we kept very good records of who we talked with which included his admitted salesman, [redacted]. The reason [redacted] did not repsond to our house was on the date of the appointment we canceled when [redacted] demnaded a check for his services if he did come to our house. As a result of Mr [redacted]'s reponse we would not be willing to do buisness with this company.

This is [redacted] and I am the owner of The Republic Companies. When we meet with a customer the first [redacted]e and in this case this customer referenced [redacted], we meet and talk about the windows and take measurements for pricing purposes. This is the initial sales call. At that time if the customer...

wants us to actually proceed with the ordering of the windows, I would then schedule a time where I would personally go to the house and take the final measurements for fit and then would collect a deposit from the customer. In this case, we did not go to the house for an initial sales call and did not go to the house for the second final measurements. We did not do any business with this customer and believe they are confusing us with some other company.
If the customer would like to call me to discuss what happened, I would be happy to discuss it. My personal cell number is [redacted].

I called the manufacturer, rather than the window company, and they helped me with the "hard to open" windows,  They fixed the problem.  If the new windows are installed in unsquare openings, the window
installers fill in the spaces to make them square.  So my new windows
should not be tough to open if they did their job right.  As for the kitchen window.  It is better than what was there and I am happy about that.  I still think that the clearance for a new window does not need to be over 1" all the way around.  I believe it can be within 1/4" and fit fine.  Most of the older windows actually had no problem opening and closing.  We had to open them to put our couches in the house and we opened them to bring in the breeze too.  We wanted more energy efficiency and so we bought Simonton Windows with dual panes.

We installed the windows that the customer ordered.  The  kitchen window that sheis talking about  in her complaint was installed  inside the metal  frame like all thewindows we install  that have metal frames. Her father claimed to  be a contractor and...

told her that that wasn't the correct way  to install  the window  When I met with her I measured the window to the size needed so we could  pull the frame. When we returned with the new window, we removed  the frame and  installed  the new window  at our cost.
We did  not charge extra  for the new  window. The customer thought that the area aroundthe window was still to large and told us that we were installing the window incorrectly. The customer was wrong  in this case and the installation was done correctly. We attempted to help  her with the windows that felt hard to open.  She claimed that they were out of adjustment. The house  they live in is 75 years old and the original windows wereseverely out of square when we arrived for the install.  We did  the best we could  to get them installed  and work properly. The adjustments she is describing in her complaint were  not necessary. Window with new weather stripping and  balancers cause  the window to be a bit stiffer than an old window the new window. The windows take some force to open and close because of the mechanical design of the windows. The old wood  windows m er home had no weather stripping or balancers to keep  the windows in place.  Yes the windows are a bit stiffer and harder to open  by design. As for  the money issue she paid me in full and kept no money back. I did not charge her for the additionalwindow which should have cost her $700 dollars. Republic did a good job helping this customerWe have not heard from this customer since our meeting and believe this complaint to be resolved.
Sincerely,

The complaint from this client was the hard to open windows and the kitchen window. The hard to open windows: The factory went to her house and helped her with the windows and by her own admission work better now. The new windows are more weather resistance because the weather stripping is tighter. This causes the windows to feel a bit tighter and harder to slide up and down. Their old windows were worn out and did not work very well. We improved their 75 year old home with great windows and did a good job installing them. Kitchen window: The customer did not like the way we installed the first window which was inside her old frame. Installing windows inside old frames is a standard in the industry. However this customer did not like it done that way and insisted we install a new window with tighter tolerances to the wall and insisted further that we remove the old frame. We complied with buying a new window at not cost to her, removing the frame and installing the window for her. The customer paid us in full for the job and could have held back some sum of money if she had wanted to. Again, Republic has provided and installed great windows with good installation techniques. We can do no more for this customer. [redacted]PresidentRepublic Companies

When my sales consultant met with [redacted] in early June, he took the measurements of the windows and gave her an estimate for the entire house of windows in the triple pane windows. She accepted the pricing, signed the proposal and then we scheduled a time for me to do the final...

measurements which I did. Shortly after that we installed the windows in [redacted]'s home and did a great job of installation. [redacted] called our office a week or so later complaining of sound coming through her windows that was worse than when she had her old windows. She now contends that she told my sales consultant and me that sound was the major reason for changing out her windows. Neither my sales consultant or me can recall her discussion and importance she now places on sound with her new windows. We have procedures in place when a customer indicates sound is an issue and we make sure it is written on the contract and it is written on the file jacket to make sure that everyone is aware that the windows need to address sound. There is no such indication on her contract. Her finance company called me about the same issue and asked me how we handle sound concerns. The procedure is the same is all cases.  I offered to change out [redacted]'s entire house to laminated glass which is the best we can offer to decrease the sound coming through the windows. I asked her to pay for the glass and I would pay for the labor. She told me that she would not pay any more money for the windows. However if she had talked about a sound package in the beginning, the pricing would have been different. I stand ready to help her with this offer if she is so inclined to do so. I would caution that even though we change the glass to laminated, the amount of sound might still be unacceptable to her. However, it is the best glass package we can offer her. [redacted] need only call our office and we would help her.

Our company policy is not and never has been to collect a check prior to services rendered until the proposal has been accepted. We would need to measure the windows and doors and then submit a proposal. Upon acceptance of the proposal we would then collect a deposit after the windows were measured by me.
This customer is claiming that we demanded to be paid before we arrived the first time.  Republic Windows and Doors has been in business for 22 years in California and has never employed that methodology. We simply don't do business in this manner.
We apologize for any misunderstanding this customer had with us.
