The Ridge at Midway

I put a holding deposit down for an apartment at the Ridge. I called less than 24 hours later to cancel the hold and was told that my check would be marked void and shredded. Three days later I received a bank alert that my check had been cashed. When I called the Ridge at Midway they said I would not receive my money back. I emailed asking for a copy of the terms that stated this policy with no response. I also called no less than 15 times in a 2 day period with no answer (during regular business hours). I understand if the policy states a deposit is non-refundable but to assure a customer you will shred their check and then cash it without any notice is unacceptable. It also violates landlord- tenant laws to not provide a receipt immediately upon payment of a deposit.
