Mixed service
I enjoy this paper. The subscription and delivery departments need better coordination. I renewed my paper/digital subscription and have yet to receive a hard copy newspaper. All the while the newspaper has been sending me numerous emails to renew my subscription.

Serious circulation issues. We get about 2/3 of our newspaper deliveries. I've used the automated report system at least 30 times in the last 4 months and never have we had another paper delivered. I've spoken to a person about 8 times in the last four months and her English was OK but there has been no resolution, no call from circulation, no outreach from our driver.

For over $500 per year one would think that we would get more than 2/3 of our newspapers. We only like the Herald for the coupons that come on Wednesday and Sunday. The comics are OK. I don't trust the biased news media and I go elsewhere for my real news.

It could be that the Rock Hill Herald is going out of business. I won't miss it.

I have had a Sunday paper home delivery subscription for about a month since 01/17/2020. I have not yet received a paper. I have called about this.
I have had a subscription for Sunday home delivery since 01/17/2020. I have not yet received a paper. I have called several times about this issue and have been told a paper will be delivered, it has never been delivered. I would like The Rock Hill Herald to deliver my paper on time on Sunday morning.

Desired Outcome

I would like The Rock Hill Herald to deliver their paper on time every Sunday.

We will notify the distribution company of the carrier error and get this corrected.

Billed for services that were never provided and never received notification except from collections
Back in May/June of this year, 2019, a gentleman stopped me in the *** off of *** and offered me a trial for both the herald and the Charlotte observer. I agreed because I was considering using the coupons from the paper and the gentleman offered me a $20 gift card to ***. From what I was told I would receive the Sunday paper and then another paper mid week. About 2 weeks into the month I called both the observer and herald to let them know I hadn't received any paper. They apologized and said they would like to give me another month free. I said okay but then another 2 weeks went by and I still had not received a paper. At this point I called both and said told them this and both companies apologized and tried to offer me another month. I'm sorry but no, it has been a month and I hadn't received anything so another month would have went buy and nothing would have changed. I told them to cancel the trial I didn't want it. After a couple more weeks I received a bill from The Observer for over $140. I called and they promised me it would be removed. A couple weeks later same thing. After another month or so I received a letter from a collection agency. I called AGAIN and have the conversation on recording that it had been escalated to be removed. I sent a letter to the collection agency and haven't heard back. Now with the herald I haven't ever received a bill but they call literally every other day to ask me if I want to restart my subscription and I tell them no and explain why. Not once did they tell me I had a bill with them or did I receive one in the mail. I just received a letter from collections from them as well. They newspaper company's are shady and at this point the only action I feel I have is to get an attorney. Do not trust the free trials.

Desired Outcome

I need both Charlotte Observer and The Herald to remove any charges that are associated with my name because they are fraudulent and I never agreed on services. They need to send a letter to collections so this does not affect my credit. I also need to be removed from their call list.

Several times over the past three months, we have unsuccessfully requested a bill be mailed to us.
We have contacted Customer Service mostly by phone, also through email, to request a bill. On one call, Customer Service said that we were no longer set up for paper billing. We had not requested that the billing method be changed. On three calls, we requested someone higher up--with no response. On the last call we asked the representative if she is allowed to transfer a call. She said no. More than once, Customer Service stated that it will send the billing request to the finance office or billing department. We have no problem getting other bills in the mail and are at a loss why we cannot get a bill from The Herald.

Desired Outcome

We would like to be mailed a bill.

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Oct 11, 2019

Our records show an renewal notice was generated on 9/9/2019 and again on 9/23/2019. The address on file is *** St and where invoices are being mailed. If this should be changed to a PO Box, please let us know and we will add a Bill-To address to your account.
Your current expiration date is 9/11/2020.

Thanks,
Customer Support

Customer Response • Oct 14, 2019

As of today, we have not gotten a bill in the mail from The Herald for the 2019 renewal. We last requested a bill on October 9. I'll send you an update on October 16.

The mailing address in the response is correct. It is the same address where The Herald has billed us for all the years that we have subscribed. Customer Support gave us the same information about the generation of renewal notices. However, since Customer Support requests the finance office or billing department to send a bill, Customer Support does not have direct knowledge.

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Oct 17, 2019

30 days prior to your expiration date(9/11/2020) a renewal will be generated.

Thanks,
Customer Support

Thank you for your assistance in this matter. We received a bill postmarked October 15 from The Herald. The response is acceptable; please close the complaint.

Unauthorized Constant Deliveries
For the past 4 years I have been receiving these green advertising papers in my yard. I have called and complained and every time they tell me we will notify the deliver driver and their supervisor to let them know my address is flagged and not to deliver the paper. That works for about 3 months and then they continue the same cycle again and again and I have had it. I am being harassed my the The Herald in Rock Hill SC the only other thing to do is file harassment charges which is what I plan to do

Desired Outcome

STOP DELIVERING THESE PAPERS IN MY YARD ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Oct 10, 2019

We have notified the distribution company to stop delivery immediately and permanently.

Customer Response • Oct 10, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I don't except this response because they have been doing this to me for over 3 1/2 years and for the past two weeks they have left these papers in my yard and I have called several times and told him to come and pick it up I will be satisfied when I come and get these papers at my yard that is still sitting in my yard for the past two weeks

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Oct 21, 2019

The distribution company has been contacted and the carrier counseled to stop the paper permanently.

The Rock Hill Herald charged an unauthorized cancellation fee after we did not sign up to renew our subscription with them.
We started to receive the newspaper from The Rock Hill Herald by sending them a check for a six months subscription. Close to the end of our subscription, The Herald would send us a reminder to renew for a designated period of time. After the original subscription period of time, I believe we renewed the newspaper two times for six months duration. Due to the high cost for the newspaper, we elected not to send them a check to renew with them. This product was provided on a 'pay as you go' system from the inception. We would pay for six months of service and that is what was provided. About a year after we discontinued their product, we received a cancellation bill from The Herald. We were surprised by the bill, did not agree with it, and did not remit payment. Several months later, I spoke on the phone with a 'collections representative' with The Herald. I explained to him that I did not believe we were obligated to pay a cancellation fee on a product we were forced by The Herald to pay in advance for before receiving. A week ago we received a collections letter/bill from A.R.M. Solutions for the amount. A letter from a collections agency is never a welcomed item and can do damage to one's credit status. I believe that The Rock Hill Herald's claim that they are due a cancellation fee is ridiculous. They would not and never did bring their product to me unless I paid for it in advance. That is how they established the service from the beginning. In consideration of my credit standing, I remitted a check to A.R.M.

Desired Outcome

Send me a check for $117.97

Late or non-delivery of my newspaper
For over a year now, the Rock Hill Herald newspaper has not been delivering my newspaper on time or not at all. Just today, this is the 3rd day of non-delivery of my newspaper which I am duly subscribed to. Numerous phone calls to customer service have not resulted in even an attempt to deliver my paper on time or at all. Tomorrow will be Sunday and I suspect I will receive 4 days wworth of newspaper. This has been the normal for over 6 months. On weekdays the paper is supposed to be delivered by 6:00am and on weekends by 7:00am. On only one occasion in the last 3 months has my paper been delivered ON TIME. So there are two issues: one is that the paper is not delivered as scheduled and the other is that the paper is not delivered at all. Usually when not delivered, 2, 3 or 4 days later I will receive all missing papers the same day. Who wants to read 3 or 4 day old news. I've even written the editor an email and never even received anything close to an answer or even an acknowledgement that he received my email. In addition I have written to *** and still to no avail.

Desired Outcome

All I want is my newspaper delivered everyday and on time.

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Jan 14, 2019

We have contacted the distribution company to ask for improved and sustained deliver of your newspaper.

I paid for the paper back on Dec 1 and have not received 1 sunday paper. I have called many times for help. No luck. No return calls, No emails
I paid for the Sunday only paper back on Dec 1 2017 and have not received a single paper. I have called many times, I bet 10 by now. Each time they say we will forward this to the supervisor of delivery, I have even asked them to call me. Each time I call, I ask for a credit for the papers missed, even today when I called the guy said I have credited you the time missed, like it have never been done before! Earlier in 2017 I had the same problem, that time I finally asked for a refund. This time, I want the dang paper. Please Help Revdex.com

Desired Outcome

I am trying to get them to deliver the paper, they seem they can get it to my neighbors homes. Its not like I live down a back road somewhere off the beaten path. Im near downtown. At this point, since I have complained so many times, the delivery person would want to ring my door bell and hand me the paper. Ha, I just want the Sunday paper!

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Feb 15, 2018

We have alerted the distribution company and asked that the delivery is verified after the carrier has completed delivery on Sunday.

The distributor will be sure to talk directly with the carrier to get this corrected.

We will extend the subscription by 3 months.

Customer Response • Feb 20, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Well, even after all this I STILL DID NOT GET A PAPER ON SUNDAY FEB 18th. I wonder if I will get a paper on 2-25. Last time I had a subscription, earlier in 2017, I had so much trouble getting the paper I finally had to cancel. I guess, soon I will have to cancel this subscription too. Its sad too, because I want the Sunday paper.

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Mar 05, 2018

The customer was contacted on 3/5 and reports receiving a newspaper on 3/4. We will follow up with our distributor again to make sure delivery stays consistent. Customer has local contact information now for any further issues.

***
Charlotte Observer.

After cancelling my subscription and paying for my amount due 4 days after I received the bill, they sent my account to a collection agency.
I received notification of my renewal of The Herald by mail on 8-28-17, account number XXXXXXXX. I sent a written request to cancel the account by mail along with the renewal slip. I did this in September. They sent me another renewal notice some time in October. At which point I called on my phone, this was Nov. 6th. I cancelled the subscription by phone. At that time, I was not notified I owed money nor told that a bill would be sent to me, but I knew I would get a bill since the newspaper was still sent after the expiration date of 10-1-17.

The bill I received is dated November 15, 2017. I wrote a check (#***) and mailed the bill along with the check on November 20, 2017 for $24.72. I received a letter on November 30, 2017 from A.R.M. Solutions, Inc. which is dated November 22, 2017 with The Herald as a client to collect money. I also received two phone calls this week trying to get me to renew the subscription, once on 11-29 and once on 11-24.

Desired Outcome

If this has been placed on my credit report I want it off. I have paid the debt. I just do not want it anywhere on my credit report. I am absolutely livid and will never recommend anyone subscribe to this newspaper company again.

The Rock Hill Herald Response • Jan 26, 2018

This is to advise you that your account with ARM Solutions is now closed. Our records have been updated to reflect this. All collection activity has been stopped.
