The scope of work that our business provides to our customers entails; free diagnosis of a faulty smartphone or tablet, procurement of replacement parts, and the labor involved with the replacement of the faulty parts with new or refurbished parts Much like a car, computer, or just about anything made from two or more components, a cell phone or tablet can be broken down into pieces In most cases if we are able to identify which of the pieces are damaged or faulty we can provide the customer with an extremely cost effective way to replace the parts instead of purchasing a new device By replacing the parts at cost instead of the total replacement of the device we have found that we are able to cut the cost of breaking a cell phone from $500+, down to as little as $ Not all parts are that inexpensive however The most expensive part of any cell phone or tablet tends to be the screen, and as we have discovered it also tends to be the part broken most often All customers that we have at Device Mechanics agree to a few statements before we begin our work I'll share with you a few that pertain to this case.Warranty: Device Mechanics guarantees their work and back Device Mechanics parts with a warranty for daysCustomer provided parts will not be warrantiedDevices with water damage will not be warrantied Warranty does not cover physical damage and/or water damage We will demonstrate that the repair is complete at the time you pick up your device.--Our warranty does not extend to physical damage Once the repair is complete and the customer confirms that their device is 100% fully operational our coverage is limited to defects Hardware Replacement: If replacement parts are needed for a repair, we will obtain them at your requestYou are responsible for the cost of any replacement parts needed.Liability: Device Mechanics liability for damage to your device is limited only to any damage which is determined to be caused by our negligent acts or negligent omissionsOur liability for device repair is limited to the total price of the repairBe aware that certain repairs, including but not limited to virus and spyware removal, may damage software and/or data installed on your deviceThis is to be expected and may require the re-installation of your operating system, programs, and data--Upon completion of repair we test every function to ensure that any damaged cause by our negligent acts is caught before we contact the customer This is then confirmed by the customer when they pay for the service.The customer in this case does not refute that she dropped her phone after the repair was completed causing physical damage to the device In rare cases we will offer to do the repair again at the cost of the part with no additional labor charge added Being that the damage occurred so quickly after the initial repair we offered this to the customer which they accepted We did not do this because we felt that we had caused any damage to the phone, but solely because we would prefer to have our customers happy It was incredibly unfortunate that the phone broke again, but our warranty is contingent on being able to return the part to our vendor free of physical or water damage The customer states that she would like to be refunded the cost of a screen as settlement for this case We will not be refunding the cost because the damage to the phone was the result of a negligent act by the customer and nothing we did, or could have done, would have prevented it.If you have any additional questions or need clarification on anything I've written please feel free to contact me directly by e-mail, or via telephone at our Kenosha location.Thank you,Andy [redacted] Device Mechanics [redacted] ###-###-####

For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I do not accept the response submitted from Device Mechanics as a solution. Device Mechanics charges for the cost of an OEM replacement screen, but delivers a sub-standard productThe manufacturer, Motorola, offers a screen replacement using OEM parts for the sum of $That replacement screen is made with Corning "Gorilla Glass", which is durable and can survive much abuse.The glass on the Chinese screen replacement that Device Mechanics utilizes is basically window glass and is very different in quality and consumer safety. I will only accept the resolution as stated in the original complaintA refund for the cost of one, of the two screen replacements I have paid for.

As documented on our website we do not claim to use OEM parts.  At no point in our business have we mislead any customer into believing that the parts we will be using to repair their device are anything but the highest quality parts available. Sometimes, like in the case of a high end Samsung screen replacement, when we are able to secure true OEM parts we are proud to inform our customer that we will be using an OEM screen in the repair.  http://devicemechanics.com/faqQ: Do you use OEM parts?A: OEM parts are not always available. We use OEM parts where we can, but when they are not available we use the highest quality parts available.The only way to ensure that the glass on a phone screen will not break, is to treat it like a piece of glass.  By dropping it, regardless of what treatment it has received, unless the manufacturer states it is unbreakable, which Corning makes no claim of, the user runs the risk of it breaking. Andy [redacted]Device Mechanics
