Review: On September [redacted] I went to Skin Spa on [redacted] (their [redacted] location-###-###-####) for a standard laser treatment. Prior to the appointment I purchased a certificate for $200.00 and 6 treatment of laser hair removal. When my service was completed I proceeded to use my certificate to pay and was told the policy had changed, convenietly after I purchased the certificate. I wasn't allowed to use the certificate for laser touch-ups going forward the [redacted] rudely informed me. Then I requested to speak with their corporate headquarters and expressed my complaint. When I repeatedly tried to contact [redacted] ([redacted]) and [redacted] the HR representative they were always conveniently unavailable.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the services that remain on my account which are 1 peel worth $80.00, remaining worth of my certificate $119.37, and the 3 laser treatments worth $125 (that I intially purchased 6 treatments for $250). The entire cash refund is a total of $324.37.

Review: In May 2012, I saw a Lifebooker deal for Laser Hair Removal (LHR) at Skin Spa. I called one of the locations to ask a few clarifying questions, and the gentleman with whom I spoke encouraged me to book directly through him rather than Lifebooker, as he would match the price of the deal. I explained to him that I am [redacted], with pale skin, freckles, and dark hair. He explained that this wouldn’t be a problem for the LHR services I wanted on my arms, legs, hands, feet, upper lip, underarms, and Brazilian bikini. I also explained to him that I have very fine brown hair on my torso that is noticeably visible up close. This gentleman told me that the laser would work on this, and that the front torso was considered to be a large area (including areola), as was the back torso. Keeping in mind that I wanted approximately 6 sessions for each area, and that I had previously committed to 3 underarm sessions and 3 Brazilian sessions at another business, I purchased the following from Skin Spa: 24 Large, 3 Medium, and 21 Small. This would allow me to treat all of the above mentioned areas as per the calculations between me and the employee.

Here is where my concerns begin. I booked my first 2 appointments for June ** & ** (2012) at the [redacted] location, for LHR on full arms, full legs, torso front and back, hands, feet, and upper lip. Alina was my technician. As this was my first time with LHR, she turned the laser down low, which is understandable. I did, however, stress to her that I have a very high pain tolerance and that I couldn’t feel the laser at all – only the ‘coolness.’

My 2nd sessions occurred on July ** & **. I completed the torso (front and back) on the [redacted] and everything else on the [redacted]. My 3rd session was booked for all body areas on August **. However, when I arrived, I was informed that they could no longer do my whole body and that they would have to reschedule half of the areas for the [redacted]. I agreed, but had to cancel because I forgot about a prior obligation on the [redacted]. As you can imagine, I book my appointments well in advance due to the fact that I do not live in NYC, so to be informed of this after I had already arrived on the 24th was quite an inconvenience.

I strongly feel that I was duped by the technician at the UES location. By the time I went to my 2nd and 3rd sessions, I had already noticed SIGNIFICANT results from the LHR in the underarms and bikini area. These areas were treated three times by a different spa. I explained this to the technician at the Skin Spa, and expressed concerns that I was not noticing any results. She said I may not notice results until 8 sessions with her. Eight sessions??? I can understand not noticing COMPLETE results until then, but I should have seen SOMETHING by session 2 or 3! And yet I noticed nothing. I was away for a few weeks and was unable to book another appointment with the Skin Spa until December 2012 with a different technician, and I saw a very minor reduction in some hair growth. However, my previous technician rushed through the services. Not as in finishing a few minutes early – I am talking I was in and out in less than HALF the time that my appointment was blocked out for. To me, this indicates lack of attention to detail and obviously unsatisfactory results. Additionally, on either the 2nd or 3rd session, my technician used a completely different laser on me that did NOT feel cool to the touch. I have no idea what she used, but I am pretty sure that whatever it was, it was NOT meant for my skin type. After speaking with some of your staff at Skin Spa, it has come to my attention that Cutera is the only type of laser used, and after doing some research of my own, it seems that the Cool Touch is the most advanced one suited to my skin. Therefore, I am convinced that an older, less effective laser was used on me that time. Additionally, during my 3rd session, I was informed that I was being ‘billed’ (off of my previously purchased package) in a manner inconsistent to what I was told when I purchased. When I purchased, I was told that my entire front torso (including areola) would count as a large area, as would my entire back torso, and that shoulders would be covered in one of these areas. In other words, to do full arms, full legs, and entire torso (minus underarms and Brazilian) would count as 4 large areas. It was only after my 2nd or 3rd session did the staff at Skin Spa explain to me that I was being billed for more than that.

However, since I had already purchased the package, I was “stuck.” I have completed at least 7 treatments by now and I am sad to say that I have experienced awful results. After 7 treatments I would expect at least 70% hair removal. Unfortunately, I have noticed about 10%, MAYBE 20% removed on my arms and legs. I have noticed absolutely nothing on upper lip and areola. My underarms and bikini are about 60-70% (however, I had 3 treatments done a different spa prior to my experiences at Skin Spa, so I am convinced that original spa was effective). I am very disheartened not to have received a product for which I paid in full, from aestheticians whom I tipped VERY well. I have already tried going through the “contact” form on the Skin Spa website (multiple times) and have not had anyone reach out to me. I tried emailing the manager. I tried contacting the business through [redacted]. No response.Desired Settlement: I want a refund. I paid $2,404.54 for my package, and at least another $500-700 in tips. I have not yet pursued posting negative reviews on [redacted], etc., but those are my next steps if I cannot resolve this through Revdex.com.
