Review: On April 9 2007 we contracted with the The Stone Company ,who at the time were located at at 36 Nod Road Clinton Ct., to template fabricate and install a kitchen counter top from a 1.25 Rosa Beta granite. We gave a deposit of $1500 leaving a balance of $1483.00 due at the time of installation.This was installed around July 2007 and was paid in full.Approximately between 2009 and 2010 we noticed a very slight discoloration in front of the sink. The year of 2010 through 2011 was a very difficult time in our lives due to illness and unfortunately the discoloration of the counter top took a backseat.When things straightened out in 2012 we tried to locate The Stone Company without success. By now the condition of the counter top had worsened to a crack in the granite top. We drove to 36 Nod Road and we found the business was closed.In August of 2013 we found the original paperwork and called the number.We reached the owner who came out within a week and he couldn't believe the condition of the granite and explained that he moved the business to work out of his home.He also said"this shouldn't have happened and that he stands by his work and he would see what he could do". After not hearing from him in 2 weeks I called and spoke to his wife,C[redacted],who informed me that they didn't have any extra granite to fit the kitchen and that they were not in the financial position to pay to replace the granite.They offered me an estimate of$2905.22 to replace the counter top.She also said that only a 5 year warranty and we were out of that time frame.This obviously happened within the warranty time but I was unable to locate them because they had moved their business.I suggested that they locate their supplier because it was obviously a defective piece of granite.She said that they would try to locate the original file. On Sept. 19 2013 I received a letter along with an estimate of $2905.22 and that they were unable to locate the original file.We feel were entitled to some compensation.Desired Settlement: We would like this counter top replaced by them or another granite company or full refund so we can contract with someone else.This should be resolved in a timely fashion because water is leaking through into the cabinets and may cause more damage.We are able to furnish the original contract and the written correspondence from The Stone Company.We can supply pictures of the cracked granite if needed.
