Dear Revdex.com, Aug.29th,2017Hello I am writing in response to complaint #[redacted].In regards to how her daughter obtained a piercing from our piercer, we have found the form ofconsent to pierce and release of claims, that was filled out and under age it says 18, it is also intialed online four, which...
states "I have trustfully represented to the piercer that I am over the age of 18 years. Iam not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. To my knowledge, I do not have any physical, mental, ormedical impairment or disability which might affect my well being as a direct or indirect result of mydecision to have a piercing done at this time".In Washington State there are no laws against piercing minors, in fact is up to the piercer to take aminors word for having consent, and/or require a parent to be present. At Tattoo Bird all minors haveto have parent consent, however said client stated on her paper that she was 18 and the piercer mayhave over looked checking her ID as the day in question was extremelly busy. However rules have nowbeen changed and all consent to pierce and release of claims forms will have the photo ID of all clientsprinted onto them to ensure ID is always checked. In regards to the unfortunate infection this client had gotten, Our piercer goes above and beyond to doher part to ensure that each and every piercing is done accurately and safely, including using nothingbut brand new sterile equipment, brand new, sterile jewelry. and throughly sterilizes the area to bepierced. Our piercer also provides complete verbal and written aftercare instructions, and a bag of noniodized sea salt, so that the client has some to use until they can buy some, which Angel even tells themto do as soon as possible and where it can be purchased. Our piercer also has her number on theaftercare paper in case a client has a question or needs help with anything. In regards to paying for medical fees, the client filled out and signed a consent to pierce and release ofclaims form. Our piercer did everything she was supposed to do to ensure that the clients piercingwould heal completely and without any complications, as long as the client followed the aftercareinstructions and did her part in keeping her piercing sterile. Therefore the infection did not come aboutdue to neglagence from our piercer, but most likely from lack of aftercare. Having an infected piercingcan easily be healed with following proper aftercare and/or in extreme cases with antibiotics. Having apiercing does not change the function nor apperance of a person's body aside from a small scar in thearea pierced, If aftercare is completely followed. The person who made the complaint states the clientis 16yrs old, at this age minors are allowed to obtain employment as well as drive cars. Also at that agethey should be able to completely follow aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing. Regardless ofthe fact that the client misreprested her age to our piercer.
