On May 20, 2014, Mr. [redacted] came into our location at around 4:10pm.
Our notary was clocked out and ready to leave for the day and was answering a question for a new associate.
When the Mr. [redacted] inquired about the notary the first...

associate said, "She is done for the day."
When he recognized the notary, she explained that she was clocked out, was answering a question and then leaving for the day. This particular associate has another job and had to leave in order to make it to her other job that day.
I understand his frustration but associates in any business should not be expected to work when they have clocked out for the day.
We have a sign posted in our location to "call for notary times available". Occasionally if the notary doesn't have to work at her second job she works a longer day and is available for notaries. She is not available during her lunch break which is usually different times each day.
Resolution:
An apology from the notary: Since she explained her situation I don't feel she needs to give a personal apology.
An apology from the other associate: It was a misunderstanding. The customer thought she said "gone for the day" when she said "done for the day". She did not lie to his face.
Settlement for services: Under the circumstances this does not warrant a settlement to pay for his notary or envelope, however on behalf of The UPS Store management and associates we apologize for any misunderstanding, any inconvenience and any frustration that resulted from this transaction.
