Review: When I was shopping at this store about 2 years ago I purchased a Tanzanite pendant/necklace. I, at the time asked if it was real Tanzanite and was told that it was. There was also a small sign next to the displayed jewelry saying as much. I did talk to an employee to make sure it was genuine and even months later I emailed the store to see if they had any other jewelry with that stone. I was told that the artist who made them stopped using those stones altogether because it had become to expensive to make this jewelry. (I have these conversations on email and [redacted] messaging.) As of last month, I contacted The Vintage Lady to ask for a certificate of authenticity. At this point the owner became very hostile, telling me that I was stupid to even think that it could be real for that price. When I told them that when I purchased the piece I was told that it was genuine. The owner said it could have been her husband, who gets confused from time to time. After I insisted that I was told it was genuine, she got even more hostile and threatened to go to the cops and sue me for everything if I reported this to you. Because of the price of the earrings I had purchased online being genuine, the same color, cut, and carat as the pendant, I had no reason to believe she was selling me fake jewelry and calling it real. I also had driven down there twice to purchase a matching necklace for my friend. There are two of them that I paid for as well as the gas to get me there and back.Desired Settlement: I would like what I was told that I was getting. Two genuine Tanzanite necklace to go with the matching (same color and shape) earrings I purchased online. I just want what I paid for.

Response:

Date: July 28, 2014Attached please find copies of messages that I received from [redacted] regarding a purchase she made at my shop, The Vintage Lady, located in [redacted], WV.In approximately July of 2012, [redacted] purchased a tanzanite necklace from our shop. In October of 2012 she contacted me about purchasing matching earrings. At some point – not sure of the date – she purchased a second necklace for a friend. On March 30 of this year, I received a [redacted] message from her, inquiring as to whether the necklaces were man-made or genuine. The attachments provided are the exact messages from [redacted] that I copied and pasted from that site.In response to her statements listed in the “Customer’s Statement of the Problem” – I offer the following:A. I stand firmly by the fact that [redacted] was not told that this necklace was genuine tanzanite. In fact, you will note in her first message of March 30 — she herself asked if it was man-made. It is my contention that had she been told it was genuine – she would not have had to ask that. She would have simply asked for a certificate of authenticity. B. In reading the attachments, in no messages did I ever call her “stupid” nor did I ever “threaten to go to the cops and sue her for everything if she reported this to you.” My final reply to her, as of April 26, was based on advice I received from my attorney. C. In my message to her of April 9–and again on April 26–I state to her that I will refund her the purchase price of both necklaces plus shipping – even though these necklaces were purchased in 2012. I believe that this is more than fair – considering that the jewelry has been worn and is two years old. Hopefully, with this refund, [redacted] will be able to purchase the genuine tanzanite that she desires.Thank you for your assistance in this matter. I hope that with your support we can finally put this matter to rest.
