Reviews Sales Lead Generation The Warton Group

The Warton Group Reviews (%countItem)

I deal directly with Tracy F.. We have been using The Warton Group for 401(K) leads over one year now. The meetings they set are good/valid "opens" and the two meetings we had that were not valid they reimbursed with no hesitation. Our firm will continue to use their services and we plan on focusing more in the 401(K) market with help from The Warton Group.

I'm 100% satisfied with my end-to-end experience with Warton Group. TWG has delivered on their service commitments to us. I recommend using TWG if you are looking for more face to face meetings with plan administrators.

I've worked with Tracy for over 6 months. I've sold one k plan and have 3 more in the works. Tracy and his team are very supportive and responsive. I would highly recommend The Warton Group for quality 401k plan leads.

Tracy F. and his team have provided us with quality appointments over and over again. We bought 5 appointments to start and closed one 3 million dollar plan on the first appointment. I believe we are close to closing another 12 million dollars in assets soon. Thank you Tracy and Warton Group.

As a 401(K) advisor, a consistent new pipeline of meetings are the only way to produce new 401(K) plan clients. I have been working with the Wharton Group for several years and they consistently produce meetings for me. They are all not perfect (sometimes the direct decision maker is not in the first meeting, personalities do not mesh, etc.) and not all prospects convert into new clients. That being said, 20-30% of these prospects eventually do business which makes the cost and time completely worth it. Gordon and Tracy do their absolute best to provide a quality service in a tough industry and I rely on them as a trusted partner when putting my limited marketing dollars to use.

The Warton Group is the only lead generation company I have ever worked with who did exactly what they said they were going to do. Thank you Tracy!!

Very professional, responsive & easy to work with. Great value for the money.

Thank you Mr. Wagner. It has been a pleasure serving you!

Rude, threatening phone call from The Warton Group all because I would not put him through to someone that is currently hospitalized after a massive heartache.

The Warton Group Response • Jul 09, 2019

We are indeed sorry to hear of your situation and hope that you have a speedy recovery. After pulling the recording of the call we found that our scheduling agent could indeed have handled it a bit more professionally however we did get the impression that there was blame on both sides here. While we are sorry that someone in your office is suffering from a serious illness, that was not explained to the agent. Our agent was trying to be as polite as possible given that the person who filed this complaint was yelling at him. We contacted this complainant directly to extend an apology to her and she again yelled at the owner of our business. We do not contact any business that does not wish to do business with us, a simple request to be removed is all that is needed. Our scheduling agents are not sales people. They do not sell anything over the phone. We discussed this with the agent involved and have taken corrective action.

Customer Response • Jul 09, 2019

This is a blatant lie. I told the "agent" that we were not interested in their services and he continued to be disrespectful and argue with me after I had asked to be removed from their list. He then lectured me that I should be listening to him and his pitch. Not once did any yelling occur on our end. The "owner" did in fact call, he laughed continually when I told him how the conversation went and as to how his "agent' behaved. The owner clearly found it funny how his representative behaved and the situation at hand. Again there was zero yelling on our end. I stand by my complaint that this "agent" was absolutely inappropriate and refused to follow through with our request of being removed and I will add that after speaking with the "owner" I understand why people at this company behave in this manner.

The Warton Group Response • Jul 25, 2019

We strive to address every issue with dignity and respect at The Warton Group. We feel that we have amended the above complaint and have provided even more professional training for our current scheduling agents to ensure the utmost professionalism in the future, especially in regard to reaching out to businesses that have employees with serous health issues and/or recent death of an employee. The above business was immediately removed from our list and we look forward to serving the remaining businesses with a positive attitude and sincere gratitude. Thank you.

Working with The Wharton Group and Tracy F. has been nothing less than a pleasure. In this industry it is difficult to find companies where actions meet words. Tracy has provided me with quality appointments time and time again. I appreciate the diligence and effort he?s put into my account and I look forward to his continued support. I highly recommend the group to anyone looking to expand their portfolio.

I bought 3 appts 2 were okay. One company was not interested in a benchmarking at all. After explaining the situation to my representative Tracy he replaced it with another appointment as promised. I believe I will be closing about 6 million in new assets in the near future thanks to the Warton Group.

The Warton Group Response • Jul 15, 2019

Thank you so much for the feedback!!

I purchased a lead from the Warton Group in March of 2018 - the lead has not yet been filled and the firm will no longer return my calls or emails
After speaking with *** at the Warton Group I was told they would find a 401k lead and that they could put me on contact to fill one lead per month. It has now been almost a year and half and the lead has not yet been filled. I have attempted to contact the Warton Group numerous times with no response. I am requesting a full refund of the purchase price.

Desired Outcome

I have been very patient with the Warton Group and given them over a year to fill a lead with one 401k client. They have not been able to comply - I am requesting a full refund of the price

The *** Group works with Financial Advisors in a business to business relationship. Our role is to set appointments for financial advisors to meet with businesses. There is a contract which is signed prior to *** beginning work for an advisor which outlines the relationship between us. This advisor purchased one lead from *** at a discounted rate, which is not something *** would normally do as our appointment program is designed to be long term and to provide advisors with anywhere from 5 to 15 different appointments per year. This advisor indicated he would work with *** long term only if he could purchase one discounted appointment as a trial. Despite our poor experience doing this, we agreed. On the first appointment scheduled for the advisor, he violated the terms of his contract by contacting the appointment by phone to request information ahead of the meeting. This ultimately caused the meeting to cancel (which is why it is contractually prohibited). The contract clearly states that advisors will refrain from contacting appointments by phone ahead of a scheduled meeting. *** fulfilled it's contractual obligation by providing an appointment. It is not ***'s fault that the advisor caused it to cancel. Despite this fact, to keep the advisor happy, *** STILL scheduled yet another appointment for the advisor. The following is the email response we received from the advisor: "I hate to do this to you... we are already in talks with this company to move their 401k. They may be taking the appointment to look at other options. *** owner of company (MJM) is a very good friend of the advisor who offices to the left of me and we have created a strategic partnership." At that point in the relationship *** was losing money badly on this advisor's account. The man hours put into generating these 2 appointments far exceeds the amount of money this advisor spent. Both appointments were not viable because of actions the advisor took or conditions that *** has NO control over. Despite these facts, *** provided this advisor with a third appointment which is scheduled to take place next month. We believe we have gone above and beyond to fulfill this advisor's contract. We now consider this matter closed.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I feel morally obligated to respond to The *** Groups response to my complaint if not simply to help educated others.
I would like to note that it is not my intension to slander *** or his firm; I am only stating facts and responding to specific claims made by *** in his response to my complaint to the Revdex.com. *** first claims to not offer discounted rates as this does not prove successful. *** sent an email in which he states his ability to do this and that it is a usual practice. *** also claims that by me calling the sponsor this caused the meeting to be canceled and that their past experiences have substantiated this claim and thus the reasoning for their contact. If the lead and meeting are this sensitive this should have *** and his frim questioning their business practices. *** claims to offer 5-15 leads per year, they were unable to provide 1 quality lead in over 16 months. *** used an excerpt from a message I sent him regarding a plan that one of our strategic partners in the office began discussions with a few months prior. As we were under the impression that we were the selected advisory team to acquire this business we immediately contacted the sponsor. Management at the company indicated the person *** spoke to was not in a capacity nor had the authority to take the meeting. I do not understand how *** claims that this is out of their control. They are attempting to sell us a lead that had already committed to doing business with us. Is it out of their control to maintain a high standard of quality, to ensure the proper fiduciaries and decision makers are the ones accepting the meetings, and that they are not under false pretense.
I urge you to use caution - my full story is below in an effort to help you make and educated decision.
The full story -
The *** Group contacted both me and my partner on numerous occasions. They begin by sending emails with a snip of a lead that claims is ready for a plan review. We told Marissa that we were not interested, the cost / commitment were not worth the investment and that we had a poor experience with a similar service prior. At this point we were handed off to *** the COO. Our conversations with *** were similar - we were concerned about cost along with the potential quality of the leads. You will pay for the monthly lead regardless of the quality and if you earn the business. *** was aggressive and at one point our conversation became quite heated and uncomfortable. Despite my better judgment I agreed to purchasing 1 lead from him at a discounted rate. I agreed to these terms in the hopes of creating a long term business relationship. I put my trust in *** and his firm - I had the best of intentions and expectations of a mutually beneficial relationship.
If you're reading this you are most likely in the 401k space and you realize just how difficult it can be to convert plans and that many sponsors will take meetings only to use you as a benchmarking tool. Often in the case of lead services like the sponsor will agree to a meeting due to pressure and tactics used by the salesperson. I say this because as *** failed to mention in his response some of the facts. On multiple occasions the meetings were canceled just at or prior to the meeting. I will take responsibility for calling the sponsor on one occasion. I had no contact from the *** Group regarding an upcoming meeting and was concerned if the meeting was going to actually take place. The reasoning for this, on one occasion we prepared, drove to the meeting and actually spoke with the contact at the company that *** had spoken to. She indicated she felt pressured and took the meeting even though she had no intention making any changes to the plan. She attempted to cancel the meeting however *** did not notify us in time regarding the meeting cancelation. Another occasion was with a company that was several hours from us - at this point we were very skeptical. I agreed to the meeting, I drove around an hour or so when I received a call from the *** Group indicating the meeting was canceled. At one point they tried to give us the same lead twice.
After about 7 to 9 months and multiple canceled meetings all communications from the *** Group went silent. I waited patiently and occasionally reached out to see what the status was. I was told they were working on securing a meeting. As all of this is going on my business partner and another colleague in the office received messages from the *** Group claiming a lead was ready for a meeting. Why was this lead not being sent to us? Apparently these are not credible leads and are used to get advisors to respond to the message.
About a year into this process and the lack of communication from *** and his firm I began requesting a refund. I felt as if I had been patient and enough time had passed. We have both put time and energy into a relationship that was not heading in the right direction. If felt it best if we parted ways and moved on.

We wanted very badly to help this financial advisor grow his practice. Unfortunately he made it very difficult to work with him. This is an excerpt from the contract he signed; "Distribution of Appointments: ...Licensee agrees to avoid contact by phone or by email prior to the date appointment is scheduled to take place." Warnings against contacting an appointment are in bold type in every appointment email we send. The reason has nothing to do with quality. We speak with these companies 3 to 4 times prior to an advisor meeting with them. Too many confirmations can be annoying to the sponsor and indicate lack of communication and disorganization between our firms. The *** Group currently works with over 160 financial advisors nationally who attend appointments set by us. Our initial contact with this advisor was indeed by email stating that there was a company we were in talks with to set a meeting. This is true. The *** Group regularly publishes an entire list of orphaned 401k appointments that are spread out all over the country. "Orphaned" means we have no advisor in our program that can attend a meeting. A complete list of these appointments can be found by cutting and pasting this link into your browser; https://mailchi.mp/55bdd14b0c8e/orphaned401kplans. Over the years we have set thousands of these appointments and combined we have more than 50 years of experience working with financial advisory businesses. Our program was designed by the feedback we have received from successful advisors over the years. We know what works. This advisor claims to be morally obligated to warn other advisors against working with us, but the simple truth is that he paid less than the value of one appointment and received 3 in return. These were set and confirmed appointments with recordings of the calls when we turned them over to this advisor. His own actions are what caused this situation, not ours. We told this advisor that we were working on his account numerous times. We were within our rights to cut ties with him when he caused his first appointment to cancel. Once again, in an effort to avoid a complaint just such as this we continued working on his account even though he was clearly not a good fit for a program such as ours.

Failure to provide contracted referrals within a specified timeframe, repeated attempts to provide lesser referrals, and threatened legal action.
I was originally solicited by the subject firm (via email) about their 401k referral program. After deliberate due diligence (including a Revdex.com file review), I contracted with the firm (on January 20, 2019) to provide introductions to 401K plans with assets greater than $5 Million. I was informed that this process typically takes 60 days to secure the first introduction. I charged the solicitation fee ($1,500) on my American Express card. After an introductory call (and email), no further communication was received by the firm. On May 20, 2019, I contacted the COO (*** Tonnesson) regarding the status of my account. I received a brief email reply from the COO: "Will check on this". No further communication was received by the firm. On June 3, 2019, I notified the firm of my intention to cancel the contract. I subsequently notified American Express of the firm's failure to perform. American Express reversed the charges ($1,500) previously paid. Since June 3rd, the firm has attempted to refer smaller 401k accounts, and has threatened legal action (if I do not comply). In my personal (and professional) opinion, the subject firm (as demonstrated by their actions) does not warrant an A- rating. It was on the basis of this rating that I originally contracted with this firm.

Desired Outcome

Cancel contract and refund subscription fee

Multiple attempts were made to communicate with this business client. He retained our company and paid a deposit to cover the cost of deploying call center staff who made calls on his behalf. His original complaint was that we were not making calls on his behalf. This is not true. Thousands of calls have been made on his behalf. Because his payment has been returned to him we now consider this matter out of our hands.

As an advisor I do not have much time to prospect for customers. The Warton Group has delivered on some serious prospects. They really care about making sure there customers are happy.

Thank you for the feedback!

I was contacted by a representative from The Warton Group, and at first I was skeptical of the call since I wasn't aware of what the bench-marking or "review" of our plan was, and then after listening to the purpose I decided to schedule the bench marking of our current plan since they didn't charge for it. I was blown away.. The professional that they sent out was amazing and very informative! As a benefits administrator who just assumed the responsibilities of overlooking our company's 401K I obviously was not aware of how flawed our current plan was until I met with their referred advisor. He suggested some options and gave us advice on how to improve our plan and they were marvelous. I would most definitely go through the bench marking for next year.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the feedback! We are so happy we could help connect you to an expert who can help improve your employees retirement outcomes.

Rep from The Warton Group tried to extract confidential fiduciary information from me by claiming our owner asked her to set an appointment with me.
I received a call from a rep named *** (though she stated she was with The Warton Research Group, I don't know why this company goes by two different names but have the same address)claiming that we were behind our schedule on reviewing our 401(k) plan. She wanted to set up an initial appointment with me, the HR manager. When I asked her if we had worked with them before she said yes. She had information about our company's 401(k) investment totals and number of employees that we have, this information was from her records over 5 years old. Which is really interesting now that I've dug into this company because apparently, they're only 3 years in business.

I then asked her if this is something the owner had done before, to which she said yes. Not only this, but she also claimed that she had recently spoken to the owner and that the owner had approved her making a meeting with me. She stated that the owner didn't want to be present for our first meeting, I could handle that, but she wanted to be present for the second meeting when we go over what this company thinks we should buy from them.

I felt this was suspicious since the owner would usually tell me if something like this was supposed to be happening. However, I still make the appointment in case it had slipped the owner's mind.

The rep then went on to ask me to update her information about our 401(k) plan, she asked how much money we have in our funds, how many employees we currently have, and who our plan admins are and what companies they are with.

While I did not give her any of our exact fiduciary information, I feel that it would have been all too easy to do so from someone less wary.

After I got off the phone with her I called the owner to see if she had approved this, she absolutely had not. I called and spoke to another rep telling her that I do not appreciate the business practice that occurred and I would like our meeting cancelled and to be taken off the call list.

Desired Outcome

I simply want to make sure this "company" doesn't fabricate information as a tactic to set appointments and get confidential information from legitimate companies.

The Warton Group Response • Jun 21, 2018

Thank you for notifying us of this issue. The scheduling agent's employment with Warton has been terminated for cause. We take a complaint of this nature very seriously. The Warton Group mission is to serve as a bridge between American businesses and financial advisors who can assist them in making improvements to their retirement plans. We do not permit our agents to make false or misleading statements. The information that is gathered during the scheduling process is not confidential or proprietary and for the most part is publicly available. We only ask companies to confirm that the information we already have is correct so the financial advisor can better prepare for their meeting with you. The meetings cost the businesses we contact nothing and they are under no obligation to use the advisor's services after the review is done. Whether a business allows us to schedule a review of their retirement plan or not, we urge all businesses to get one done regularly. Again, think you for notifying us.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I was contacted promptly by The Warton Group. One of their partners let me know that the representative had misled me, whether knowingly or not, and was let go due to that action.

This issue is completely resolved.

Ive been promised a refund since January. They keep asking me to wait or they ignore the response.
I asked for a refund on January 16th. They have promised in writing a refund but have not delivered.

Desired Outcome

They still owe me $1,000 refund.

The Warton Group Response • Jun 14, 2018

Representatives from our Company are directly in contact with this complainant to resolve this issue.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
They agreed to send my money back if I signed a settlement agreement. They also required me to drop my complaint at the Revdex.com in order to get my money back.

Then they had a second attorney call me and threaten to sue me if I complained more to the Revdex.com or any other website.

I feel like I am being bullied.

I made them a counter offer that if they wanted me to sign the attached agreement that they would send me $5,000 instead of the $1,000 due.

See attached Settlement paperwork sent to me.

The Warton Group Response • Jun 25, 2018

Our company had a very brief BUSINESS relationship with this person in which he leased our call center personnel to set appointments for his insurance business. While we don't typically refund money while work is still being performed, we decided it was in everyone's best interest to attempt to part ways amicably and absorb the loss to us. It was explained early on that his refund would be processed in due course and issued to him over time. All we asked in return was that we be able to close out this matter and both companies (his and our) move on. Before the last part of his refund could be issued to him he filed this complaint on the Revdex.com and sent threatening emails. Because of this we felt it best to have our attorneys issue the final part of his refund. He then began demanding that we pay him $5000 more in addition to his refund or he stated he would smear our company's name on Revdex.com, Yelp, and Google Plus. We don't take kindly to being blackmailed by anyone. As a small business we work hard to try and do the best job possible for the businesses who entrust their marketing needs to us. We are not above making mistakes, like anyone else in the world, but to have someone threaten to ruin our reputation because we won't pay them not to, does not sit well with us. We have refunded ALL monies this business paid to us. We now consider this matter closed.

Customer Response • Jun 26, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This business through their attorney tried to coerce me to delete my review of the them on Revdex.com. They offered to only pay me back (My Money!)If I signed their Settlement Agreement and Mutual General Release. I have this all in writing for anyone who wants to see it. What kind of company ask's people to sign a agreement to never speak of the company again and remove my Revdex.com review? They owed me a refund. They decided to slow pay mean as long as they wanted. When I "threatened" an attorney action then sent me to their attorney. When asked to sign this agreement I didn't agree t sign it for free. If they want me to remove my review and sign this agreement I wanted $4,000 for that. I shouldn't have to sign anything to get my money back. I did mention I was also going to share this story on other sites like Yelp and others. It wasn't blackmail. They were trying to silence me by coercing me to sign their legal doc. I have all of this in writing. Do they? I would love to see it. I have month's and month's of emails of them putting me off on my refund. Who would want to do business with a firm like this? He begged me to stop this complaint because I was only hurting his employees. He didn't care how much of my time he wasted following up for months on my refund only to be coerced into signing a legal document to silence me. Also he had a second attorney call me called *** who threatened to sue me that day if I wasn't a "big boy". He asked me if I wanted to "throw down". So hiring attorney #2 to bully me didn't work either. I couldn't believe the guy is actually an attorney. I want an explanation as to why I needed to remove my review on Revdex.com and sign a release document to get my money back.

I was contacted by The Warton Group requesting an appointment to review our 401k program. Since I was not familar with them, I asked them to provide an email with their information, which they did. When they called back to set-up an appointment, I told them I was not interested. They became very rude and and indicated I was putting my employees at risk by not using their services.

The Warton Group Response

The Warton Group takes this type of complaint very seriously and has looked into this matter. All calls to and from Warton are recorded so it was a simple matter to find the call that was made to Ms.. After reviewing the recording we have determined that Ms. complaint is without merit. The caller was insistent but polite. The Warton Group offers companies free bench marking services for their company's retirement plan. A local advisor who specializes in evaluating the quality and cost of defined contribution retirement plans is referred in, at no cost to the company accepting the referral. This helps companies meet their fiduciary requirements and ensures they are offering the best plan possible for their employees. There was nothing said during the call that could be considered rude, or misleading. Ms. predecessor at her firm had originally scheduled a review through Warton earlier this year but then postponed the review before it took place. Warton's caller was simply calling back to reschedule the original appointment. Ms. had spoken to this same caller previously asking the caller to send information to her and to follow up with her to reschedule.
