A mechanic with 47 years of experience as a mechanic with cars/trucks and small machines. I had him work with me on the first day to install the propane, water and test the cart. Please see his comments below.
In my professional opinion, this cart is a safety hazard with poor craftsmanship and poor design.
The griddle exploded when I first lit it. This caused a fireball that could have easily seriously injured or even killed someone. The connection to the griddle was counter threaded-which means that the griddle was never tested or turned on before the cart was delivered. This was true even though American Dream insisted that they had inspected the cart.. This griddle was never turned on or tested before they gave it to him.
The insulation behind the griddle was not fireproofed or wrapped in aluminum foil which is a hazard because it caught on fire. Had we had COOKING OIL IN THE DEEP FRYER NEXT TO THE GRIDDLE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC!
I then removed the plate under the grill and noticed that there were screws missing, the grommet for the propane hose was too big and not secure thus preventing the gas line from moving around. There were multiple panels missing screws and the workmanship was of poor quality.
When we went to try and hitch the trailer back to his car the wheel on the tow bar was flattened and we had to rock the cart back and forth to get it rolling.
American Dream sent a new griddle connection which we installed and got the grill to light. They also sent Silcon to have me reattach and reseal the griddle to the cart frame. This was sold as a brand new cart and at every step of the way their MO was to respond only via email 24-48 hours after I made a request. I had repeatedly asked for a Zoom or Facetime call to show them what difficulties I was having and they refused.
When I shared a post on the private Facebook Group "Vendors United" which was where I paid the original $347 I was removed from the group and my post was deleted. Since then several members of that group have reached out to me who have also had similar experiences.
I then did some digging and found out that Ben's Carts/The Hotdogcartstore/American Dream have an F rating on the Tennesse Better Business Bureau. In addition to many, many reviews of substandard work.
The bottom line is this cart does not work, has never worked, is a fire and safety hazard and the only solution they offer is videos and emails on how to repair it myself.
I had purchased a permit that gave me exclusive rights to vend in a local park on August 1 and have been unable to make a living, I drove 30 hours round trip to pick this cart up and transport it myself. I have tried multiple times myself and with two different professional mechanics to get this cart functioning. I have absolutely no incentive to do anything but have a fully functioning food cart. Unfortunately, this cart is not it and the company I purchased it from has not been able to resolve the issue.
WARNING-DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BENSCARTS/Thehotdogcartstore.com or American Dream. Its a nightmare
