This complaint has already been reviewed by the South Carolina DMV Upcountry Motors was compliant and the case was closedWe took this vehicle on a traand it was inspected at the time we purchased for any signs of mechanical issues - known to this model We did not
observe any The car had been driven appmiles prior to our purchase We road tested and again did not notice any over- heating or smoke Before selling the vehicle - we replaced brake pads and did some other fluid checks with a pre - sale
Mr *** declined a service protection plan that we offered very Inexpesivley at the time of dale He was aware the car was sold " as is" and signed the appropriate documents disclosing this
Several days later we did hear from the purchaser regarding an issue We were told by him that *** *** had diagnosed the car with a head gasket issue- and was going to cost about 3k It was during this several hour window of text communication - that he was reminded the car was sold " as is" we had lowered the price and he had declined a protection plan and that we were not liable in this caseAfter discussing this further with him- I offered a solution using a mechanic we know who is very reasonable- to reduce the repair from the 3k quoted to around $out of pocket for him This would have required a contribution by us financially to get to that price point
Around the same time we made this suggestion- we were alerted to some very negative face book posting accusing us of being " scams" and a host of other accusations by this customer I quickly reminded the purchaser that we were not liable and that we were trying to assist in a situation that was very unfortunate And that attacking us wasn't the best way to ask for our help At this point - we basically removed ourselves from this situation as accusations and threats continued We have a text history documenting all of this.
In addition- this customer was not called stupid It was pointed out tht the particular vehicle he purchased does have a bad reputation for having head gasket issues- and that researching this may have prevented him from purchasing a car with known risk factors
We did delete our company face book page 4-months after this issue This was only done after we discovered this customer had created a fake and fraudulent Upcountry Motors face book page and was making very negative ad slandering posts against our name This matter is being investigated and copies and pictures have been retained showing his phone number attatched to the fake face book page
Please be advised that the property in question is government subsidized property. Efforts to make such repairs take time and regulated procurement of services.
The incident in question was repaired the week of July 14, 2014.
