Thermo Seal Home Improvements Reviews (4)

Review: We hired Thermo Seal back in June of 2013 for a siding job that was set to start in early September. At the time of the contract the salesman [redacted] stated they were very busy and were selecting jobs that were about 3 months out this also matched our schedule for the completion of some exterior work so we decided to proceed with the contract and hire them on to take the job. They were very nice and professional during this phase until the time they requested payment of the entire job in August. At this point I was stuck I had gotten a loan via there bank and had already received funds for a Job they were set to complete I had no choice but to comply and as stated to this point they were helpful and nothing had been out of place. Then the start date came and went and the completion date came and went and all the while we kept hearing from [redacted] they were going to come next week. They didn't start my Job until around Halloween and they were only showing up 2-3 days per week. this continued until Thanksgiving until they stopped coming at all. They have yet to return unless to remove equipment and my poor house is still not done. My main complaint is lack of consistency and breach of contract.Desired Settlement: I wish to be compensated for all of the work that has been done to date so that I can hire a true siding professional to finish my job. I have had some other siders come out and quote me and they have question the quality of the work that has been done and think I may have problems with water and pests due to holes and pockets the siders have left in the trim and the walls of the house.

Review: Mario Smarrelli, owner of Thermo Seal Home Improvements sided my house early in 2013. He boasted how he and his father stand by their work and product, meaning great service during the work and after. Well I accidentally damaged part of the siding wrap that goes around the front door. I called Mario and he finally came out after numerous text and phone messages. He suggested that he would order a full coil and come back to repair damage to the wrap around the door. After such meeting he has just vanished. I have tried repeated texts to his cell phone and even leaving messages on his website address. I now find out that his cell phone is out of service. This has not been a very professional way to handle the matter by Mario.Desired Settlement: I of course am willing to pay for the repairs but it has been impossible to get ahold of this guy. Obviously he is ignoring all my reasonable requests.

Review: Signed a contract with Thermo Seal Home Improvements on 10/16/2013 and gave a 50% deposit.Work was contracted to start on 11/25/13 or sooner with an end date of 12/25/2013.I've been in constant contact with [redacted] the son of the owner for the entire time (up until yesterday) and was given reasons for the delay ranging from health to weather delays.Received an email last night that they're closing the business....looks like they're filing Chapter 7.Desired Settlement: Refund me my $10,750 deposit on the contract

Review: On April 7th 2013 we signed two contracts with [redacted] owner of Thermoseal, one for siding and sliding doors and the other for a two tier deck to replace the exiting deck. Thermoseal was given a deposit for 1/2 of both contacts. The deck contract deposit was $13,750.00 and final payment upon completion. On July 1st when most of the siding was complete (after 8 very long weeks) and the two decks torn down, Mario stated that he did not have the money to purchase the deck material and he requested more money. On July 2nd both parties verbally agreed to cancel the deck contract. We have not received our deposit back and we are still owed 3 sliders and installation from the siding contract which is not complete, and now there is not deck to install the sliders. We have been working hard on finding a new contractor to install the new decks and have finally decided on a new contractor. We have offered him a settlement on the sliders/siding contract for unfinished work and asked for a formal cancelationation of deck contract to which we have gotten no response. At this point we are forced to persue legal action.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

We would like the deck contract canceled in writing and our deposit of $13,750.00 returned immediately unless the Harvey sliders (1) 8ft and (2) 6 ft are delivered to our home immediately along with the custom trim pieces that go with them. We need the punch list completed and the $900 dollars Mario received back from distributor that he promised to pass on to us because of a siding material was not available in 15 and 25ft lengths as promised. Here is the punch list:Fasten Blue trim on front round windowReplace corners on back side of house -both look damagedReplace caulk on roof with correct color of roof - blackReplace bubbling in siding on left side of house Remove all dirt on soffit at rear of housePick up nails with magnet all around house. Replace the defective front door installed on August. 1st.

Response:

As with every situation there are two sides to an argument. I have done everything in my power since day one to comply with all of their requests and demands on these two SEPERATE contracts. The first contract for new vinyl siding on the whole house and three sliding doors. Then the second was to demo a two story deck and rebuild it. Both contracts were to be paid on completion. In order to complete the first contract (siding) the rear deck needed to be taken down. The siding was then complete. At which point we also began prep work for the deck. At this point since we had already completed siding (and they both said it was great) and we began work on the deck contract also I asked them for final payment on the first contract. Not unreasonable since it was complete minus the doors. The work in which we already completed on the deck was already $3800 and the completion for the siding was to be around $13,000 (not including the many extras which were not in the contract that cost me labor and materials. The customers then informed me they did not feel comfortable moving forward. There reason was a dislike for one of my workers and not wanting to pay until both contract are done. I told them I can not carry that amount of expense. So they asked me to take the deposit for the deck and carry that forward as payment for the Final pay on my Siding contract. Also they want me to cancel the deck contract. (Which I have already completed a good portion of) AND ALSO to bring them the sliding doors. This is completely unreasonable and I can not comply with another unreasonable request from these customers. The cost of the sliding doors still does not equal the amount I have left owed to me for work complete on the deck and extra work I have completed at there request which was not in the original contract. At this point I would be happy to walk away from the whole thing and cancel the deck contract and not charge them for anything but I WILL NOT comply with anymore demands of work or sliding doors since this has all gone too far. My final straw was at the point when I received a phone call from one of the customers demanding I comply or he would come to my house and take care of me face to face. This is a business deal and I don't feel that threats of harm are actions in which are necessary. I did not file a complaint with anyone about this threat but the people who heard it feel it could be a problem. I did not go to the police but I did speak to business lawyer about this whole matter. What I want is to be done with the whole situation. I'm sorry I haven't been able to comply with every unreasonable request but I can not keep losing money to try and keep them as happy customers. This I feel is already not something that is possible. All the years we have been in business and never once has there been a complaint against us nor have I ever had to deal with a situation such as this.

Review: 9[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

First off there was not threat against [redacted], only a statement that if he would continue to ignore our voice mails and text messages to complete the contract we would have to go to him to address these issues in person. Second of all, he is responsible for the installation and purchase of 3 sliders to complete the vinal siding contract which I have asked on numerous occations but he never was able to produce them and we paid for them. There is still a punch list of incomplete items. He does have 2 days of labor in tearing down the deck and digging the holes that had to be re-dug and the headers were just nailed in need to be lagged. We were indeed unhappy with 2 of his workers, one had a bad back and couldn't do any work and the other was afraid of hights which we have a 3 story house so that didn't work out too well also. [redacted] promised that he would be on the jobsite every day and he never was, if he was able to run this job properly his employees wouldn't have been able to take advantage of him an be off working on side jobs. We told him over and over that he employees were not working and he told me that I was micro managing him and that he did not go into buiness for himself to be micro managed. His workers showed up and 10:30 when they did show up and then left before 3pm. There was only one worker that actually cared to do a good job but he was very slow and this is why it took two months to side our house. We quickly realized that he was not capable of doing the deck project, he was just in over his head and should of never took on this project. He owes us the 1/2 the deck contract deposit and I will get quotes on the 3 sliders along with installation to install and he can take his two days of partial labor off that total.

Sincerely,

Denise Marie Jeffrey
