I am including a copy of the FAFSA FAQ regarding the submission of the vstax returnsI spoke with *** *** on the 11th of March andapologized for the error that my clerk madeShe had left a message on ouranswering machine saying that Christine caused her daughter to lose her
financial aidI spoke with my staff and will recap what I was told. When one of my clerks, Angela, called her up to apologize for accidentally marking her tax return ready to file, *** yelled at her and told her that she was holding her responsible for her daughter's tuition bill, which made Angie cryAngie told her that she was only a part time seasonal worker and would pay her out of her Social Security checkChristine heard Angie crying, so she took the telephone and tried to apologize as wellChristine told *** that I was in with clients, but that I would callher when I was finished for the day.I spoke with Christine, who prepared the return, and asked her what happenedShe explained that she prepared the tax return and found that *** and her husband were not aware that they could take her daughter as a dependent and receive educational credits for attending collegeThey had difficulty attempting to retrieve the necessary paperwork, so Christine let them use her computer to download the Form 1098-T.Christine said that they were very happy with the resulting refundAt the request ofthe client, Christine held off filing the return as *** indicated she wanted to apply for FAFSA using her income rather than her incomeChristine assured me that at no time did she represent herself as being qualified to give advice to ***on FAFSA.I called *** and apologized for the error and asked her what I could do*** told me that she expected me to pay for the loss of financial aid to her daughterI explained to her that that was not going to happenI was told that I was not an honorable man and that she would contact her lawyerI told her that that was her rightI was going to offer her a refund of her fee but she hung up on me after again saying that I was not an honorable man.I feel that we made a mistake filing the return before we were notified by ***, but other than that we have done nothing wrongWe would gladly file an amended return for her, but then she would lose credit for her daughter's tuition and potentially owe additional taxesWhen a return is filed Married Filing Separately, the taxpayers lose these credits since they are income sensitive and the amount lost can be in the thousands That means that the Internal Revenue will disallow them because taxpayers have been known to use this ploy to get these credits when they have earned too much to qualify using Married Filing Jointly. When *** submits her FAFSA forms, the financial aid will be awarded based on her circumstances not on when we filed her tax returnsIf the College feels that her family is eligible to receive the financial aid based on her tax return regardless of her marital status, she will receive it.I retract my offer to refund ***'s fees for doing the tax return.Sincerely, Thomas AFerraro JrCPA

I am including a copy of the contact report from my employee, Christine [redacted]with this correspondence. I did "speak" with [redacted] on the 7th of February2017. At first, I mistook her for another client. She did not mention that I didapologize when she corrected me that it was not her who...

complained about the priceincrease last year. I did hang up on her after she continued to shout at me. I am aprofessional and I do not feel that I need to be abused on the telephone by anyone. It is her right to file a complaint with the Revdex.com, which I am amember, and the Internal Revenue Service. I feel that we have done nothing wrong. We would gladly file an amended return for her, but I will not do it for free. I feelthat we were not at fault with the service that we provided. The charge for her taxreturn was $80, which is far below what she would pay at any of the Big Boxpreparers or another CPA firm. Christine offered to amend it at a charge below thenormal cost.We always provide our clients with copies of their tax returns. I am sorry if [redacted]misplaced her copies and we are more than happy to provide additional copies at acost of $7.50 per year. I feel that this is a reasonable charge. The file copies are myrecords of the returns that we file.Sincerely,Thomas A. Ferraro Jr. CPA
