Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because DrR*** did not recommend surgery to me verbally. In fact, after being asked multiple questions by DrR*** including my age which I'm sure would have been in my file had he been provided my data and the paperwork I filled out as well as the paperwork for the referral from Dr*** ***, and repeating the situation and the fact that I couldn't raise my arm, turn, or otherwise conduct a daily life like washing my hair and getting dressed, he asked me what I wanted him to do about it. I said "operate, fix it, give me my active life back" and his response was a blank look. So, I said, let me start over and I spoke in medical terms since I've been down this road before with my lower back. I regurgitated the MRI findings, the physical issues, and he said, that he recommends steroids instead. I said that I didn't want to go the steroids route and had been there before with no result. He shrugged and proceeded to say that that was the only course of action he would take at this point in time and he would write or prescription for me and then we'd reevaluate after the steroids.. Yes, I agree. I am non-compliant in calling back as it was a disastrous and frustrating experience. I have never been treated so poorly by a physician, let alone by one who came recommended. Additionally, it was also not disclosed as to the cost of a "consultation" and when I inquired at the office window if there was some type of payment, co-payment or other, the person at the counter said no and waved me to sit down.....I had interrupted a conversation by standing at the window. The whole experience was certainly one I would never wish to be repeated in any service sector in which I do business.Sincerely,*** ***

medications-insurance informationIt has been our office policy for the last 35 years to ask the patient to be responsible to bring theselisted items to our office at the time of their appointment, as we cannot run our office efficientlywithout them. This patient was compliant and brought everything with her. In our experience MRl's arenot always received in a timely manner from the MRI facilities for patient appointments and in thisparticular situation it was a good example.Dr. R[redacted] has a very busy schedule starting at 7:00 am seeing patients every 30 minutes withthe last appointment at 11:30. He then goes to surgery. This gives him sufficient time to examine andtake each patient's health history. According to Dr. R[redacted]'s chart notes, which are provided inaccordance to the HIPPA that was offered and accepted on 8·5·15, this patient was seen and examinedin the same timely manner.According to Dr. R[redacted]'s chart notes, he did recommend surgery for this patient. He gave her acourse of steroids and asked that she call him back with the results to determine if she should moveforward with surgery. It appears that the patient was noncompliant and never called back. We were notaware of her unhappiness until we received your letter. We apologize for this patient's unhappiness with our office. However, the amount billed and paid byher insurance company is for Dr. R[redacted]'s time spent examining and talking to the patient. We billfor all consultations to insurance as they are not free. We billed to the insurance company with theinformation that this patient provided to us. The balance billed to the patient went toward herdeductible.
Sincerely,
Thomas R[redacted]
