Thomas W Mitchell DDS Reviews (4)

We provided this patient with an appliance to treat his sleep apnea as requested by his referring physician. At his first appointment we discussed different types of appliances and he wanted one that we have had difficulty with previously, causing teeth to move. At that time we
weren't certain that we had overcome those problems, so we chose a different appliance which cannot cause teeth to move. He was very skeptical that this appliance would be satisfactory, so as we usually do we stated that we wanted to start with this one but would switch to the other once he was comfortable with the initial appliance and once we had solved the tooth movement issue. He returned twice with complaints about the appliance. At the 2nd return visit he stated that the appliance had caused his teeth to move, which isn't possible due to the design of the appliance. He was rather rude, stating sarcastically that since it could not move teeth he must be a liar. We of course asked him to please understand what the appliance could and could not do, and we began procedures needed to compare his existing occlusion with his original models and to make him the appliance he desired. While I was gathering equipment to begin that process, he angrily left the office, leaving his appliance. We then sent his appliance to him by mail. He has not contacted us since. If he wants us to refund his money, we will be happy to do that. We would appreciate it if he stop this complaint process, as we are willing to comply with his requests If he wants to return to our office to continue treatment we would certainly see him or we could contact his insurance company for an appropriate referral.
Sincerely: Thomas *M***, DDS, FAGD

My Reply:
I do not know what sarcastic meansI was politeI was offended but not angryThe dentist was very upset, angry, and insulting
From the first minute of the visit, as I was describing the problems I experienced with the device, the dentist put up a barrage of “that cannot be possible”, and ”I don’t believe any of that”He was obviously very irritated and repeated those two statements several timesI never had a dentist or a doctor, or anyone for that matter, dismissing wholesale in such way my feeling about a treatment
*The dentist was not listening and did not want to listen*
It was the device that was defective, but the dentist took it very personally, and became angryThen, out of the blue, came the gratuitous insult of uncivilized, only because I said I was not lying
Threating others of uncivilized is a very serious offenseEmpires fell for much less than thatIt hits people in the core of their dignity
I was offended but not angryI left the dentist office not angry but very calm, in a Zen-like mood, and made sure to thank his assistant because she had nothing to do with all this
Again, the pain is real, the gap between the teeth is real, the forward pull on the incisors is real, as is the tearing off of the inside lining. And my regular dentist advising to use braces to correct for the incisors gap and forward leaning is also real
It turns out that I am not the only one who had a catastrophic experience with this dentistFormer patients of his shared their experience on the web (I can provide the links)Here are only out of several (I the dentist name replaced with x)

I would expect an apology, and full refund

Revdex.com:
Greetings,
Indeed, yesterday, I received a letter from the dentist requesting me to sign on a unsolvable long list of conditions
If the business really wants to proceed with the refund, it does not need anything from meIt already has my Credit Card number, and my Group Health insurance account
Refunding is a one-click process
The question the business has now to answer is: Does it want to proceed with the refund as it said over days ago it would? Yes or No?
Sincerely, *** ***

We have sent him a release form for him to sign and return.  As soon as we receive that form we will refund his money.  Thank you - Thomas * M[redacted], DDS
