Thompson's Rose Chapel

Review: On April 19, 2014 I arranged for funeral expenses through Thompson Rose Chapel, Inc. in Sacramento, CA. On that day, the business owner ([redacted]) did not give me or my sister a copy of the contract that she had us sign, because she was going to check into getting my father's life insurance to pay and she needed to verify if they would be willing to pay first.On April 23, 2014, right after my father's funeral, me and my sister were rushed into a conference room, at Thompson Rose Chapel, and told to sign promissory and assignment notes, regarding my father's funeral expenses. We had only a few minutes before the guy driving the hearse was to leave and we did not have time to discuss the promissory and assignment forms, which had no itemizations on it. The form only had a charge for complete service of $4950.00 and a charge for insurance fee of $247.00. It should be noted that we had never discussed an insurance fee, during our initial meeting and this fee was added the day of my father's funeral. As of April 30, 2014, I've called and informed a woman named Pat to relay my messages to Ladonna Olden that I no longer needed or wanted the initial fifteen death certificates that I'd requested when we met on April 18, 2014 and that I wanted to receive an original itemized funeral expense form. I followed up with subsequent calls on 5-7-14, 5-9-14, 5-14-14 (three times) and 5-16-14. It should be noted that each time, except for 5-16-14, I have spoken to staff, including someone named Tanesha, and informed them of my requests; however on 5-16-14 I left a detailed message on their answering machine with the same requests. To date (May 16, 2014), I have not received any calls back from any staff at Thompson Rose Chapel, Inc. or any itemized statement of expenses. I am more than disappointed with this company's service. They are in business to show understanding and compassion with its customers during their loss of a loved one and I will never do business with them againDesired Settlement: I want to be refunded any and all charges for death certificates, because Sacramento County Vital Statistics informed me, when I picked up death certificates from them, that none had been ordered by the funeral home and I had already informed Thompson Rose Chapel to cancel my order. Also, I want a itemized statement of all expenses for my father's funeral, which they never gave us a copy of.

On May 18, 2014 (Friday late afternoon) the complainant ([redacted]) and her sister came into the funeral home to make funeral arrangements for their father. At the conclusion of the arrangement conference I asked "how will you be paying today", and the complainant said that she was her fathers power of attorney and that she needed to transfer funds etc. and that on Monday she would return and pay. at that time she was only given a copy of the charges, as standard procedure a family is not given the original invoice until it has been satisfied financially and stamped paid.
