Thorn-Barry Apartments

Thorn-Barry Apartments were one of the nicer complexes in Middleville and we were happy to live there at first. They changed dramatically 2 yrs ago when they went under new management. The deteriorating conditions and lack of effort by management to resolve or fix issues went ignored, maintaining them was non existent. They did renovate the office though-with expensive furniture, new carpet & paint-so at least that part looked great as I'd drop off my constantly increasing rent payments. We were told the increases were due to the extreme expense of "upkeep", I think they were referring to the office instead of the actual apartments that people lived in. They so thoughtfully made the increases right before Christmas, rather than when your lease was renewed, and again usually 6 months later. In the winter time you were lucky to get your vehicle out of the parking lot and the sidewalks were covered in snow-residents purchase shovels to TRY to maintain a sidewalk that was safe. Due to such extreme neglect & management, we vacated the apartment after our lease was up. In the meantime the amount of people moving in & out was like a revolving door-and always the same comments of "I can't believe the price of rent for such poor conditions, and management does not care about our concerns". That is very true and it's unfortunate because it COULD be a nice complex if they would put in efforts, do the back ground check/credit check like they say when charging $50 application fee! They'd know if a person/family could afford their rent for 6-12 months by verifying their income, and that would save a lot of hassle. Instead they take the $ and let teenagers move in, probably because they need to fill all the vacancies. My new apartment complex renovates the ENTIRE apartment after a resident moves out-new carpet and paint, and upgrades everything to stainless steel w/wood flooring in entries/bathroom-at the LEAST! And if you call they answer, ever have a problem, they're at your door...how it should be! I would never live at Thorn-barry apartments, even if it were free. I hope they work on becoming a more trustworthy business so people Middleville can actually get what they pay for and live in a nice community with fair business practices.
