Well, I guess it is not a happy birthday after all. I am turning 54 tomorrow and I decided to use my birthday money to purchase a antique china cabinet that I thought was so beautiful on the facebook account at thriftique in Putnam, CT. When I arrived there, the cabinet looked as it did in the picture. Very pretty. Since my family and I are extremely allergic to mold, my only concern was whether the piece was moldy. [redacted] assured me THEY NEVER BUY ANY ITEM OR SELL ANY ITEM WITH MOLD OR MILDEW ON IT. I will spare you all the boring details, but after cleaning the item and placing in my home - it was moldy and we felt sick! I called [redacted]. They said it is not moldy! No proof mind you, she purchased from an estate sale. Since I had never purchased antique furniture in my life, I guess I didn't know what to look for. Specifically, black mold all over the back of the cabinet! After speaking to [redacted] of Thriftique, who, basically told me to go screw myself and that I would not get a refund I decided to call a +30 year antique dealer to discuss this whole situation. He indicated, if I do not want my family being sick from mold to kick it to the curb. Which I have done. Bottom line, don't do business with unreliable companies! Thanks for letting me vent!Product_Or_Service: china cabinetOrder_Number: n/aAccount_Number: n/aDesired SettlementI will return the above piece of furniture to the store for the price paid $90.00. Business Response to whom it may concern, the customer came to our store after seeing a antique china cabinet for sale on our facebook page. she spent almost 2 hrs in the store looking over the piece going as far as to open it and smell the inside..she said she wanted to make sure it didn't smell musty & she said it did not.we assured her that we don't bring furniture into our store that smells musty or like cigarette smoke, animals etc. we take pride in selling quality furniture & are complimented all the time on how neat and clean are store is & that they love how it doesn't have that flea market smell.this is the first complaint we have ever received.when myself & my son delivered the cabinet to there house her & her husband both looked it over again & said it was very nice. about 2 or 3 days later she called and said that she had been wiping the piece down with a BLEACH solution prepping it to be painted when she noticed black stuff on the rag when she was wiping down the back of it.at which time I explained to her that im sure it had gotten a little dirty when it was in the back of my truck being delivered to her, which is about an 1hr 1/2 from my store.she insisted it had to be mold. I reassured her it was not.like I said we all looked the piece over when it got to her home. I told her that at the time of purchase to be sure it was what she was looking for because all sales are final. I also told her to send me pictures of the mold and send them to my phone..I received two pictures of just darkness and called to tell her that I couldn't see anything & didn't understand why because she had stated the the piece was outside in her driveway. it was a bright sunny day and no reason for pictures not to come out.at that time she said it was because it was a picture of the mold on the inside of the cabinet ??? I said you told me you noticed mold on the back of the piece while wiping it down.she stated it didn't matter where it was anyway. I had caught her in a lie and she knew it. after I told her that if she could show me mold I would return the piece (but I clearly wanted to see what she was calling mold)she came up with excuse after excuse about her camera not working and so on.I also told her if the piece was damaged by her using bleach on it and in not the same condition we delivered it in that she could not return it. so all she had to do was send me pictures (in which I could see something) such as mold and it still be in good condition I would in fact let her return it. like I said before she came up with excuse after excuse to why she couldn't send me a clear picture of the mold. I believe she ruined the piece while using bleach on it and simply wanted her money back for a piece of furniture she had ruined. I can provide many many happy customers to you & you are welcome to visit my store at any time to see for yourself the kind of quality items we sell. This matter is very upsetting to us because we work hard to please people & have made a good name for ourselves and do not want something like this to bring negativity to our business. thank you for taking the time to here our side of this matter. sincerely [redacted].Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)For one thing, I am glad to see that the company I have filed a complaint against has unlimited access to file a long winded response, when I had such limited characters to file my complaint. I do not appreciate being called a liar. This piece of mold infested furniture went out in the garbage. That is the good news. This company is more about making a buck, than customer satisfaction. I just randomly made up this particular piece of furniture has mold on it? For what reason? Ridiculous! I am confident that this new company will find its demise shortly. You cannot treat your customers like garbage, call them liars, and expect to stay in business! Good riddance!
