[redacted]Sorry that you are having a problem with your a/c unit.   The parts and labor warranty that you have is thru the manufacturer, and thus we have to follow their procedures in order to repair your unit.  When we arrived at your house and checked your air conditioner, it was...

completely out of refrigerant - which is why the unit will not run.  In order to repair your unit under the manufacturers warranty, we need to find out where the leak is (what part failed), and in order to do that we normally need to charge it back up so the unit will run.  It's possible the leak is in the outdoor unit, the indoor coil, the copper lines in-between or its possible that the service valves did not seat properly last time it was checked. We have found the most likely place for the leak is the indoor coil caused by formicary corrosion - but we still need to verify it in order to get it covered by the manufacturer.  It clearly states on your warranty under 'WHAT IS NOT COVERED'  that the diagnostic time to assess a problem is not covered.  We can pull your unit into a vacuum and verify a leak if it will not hold a steady pressure under vacuum, but it still does not tell us where the leak has occurred unless it is very large - which is rare.  We can also run nitrogen thru the system to try to find the leak, but it is under much less pressure than a running unit, and unless the leak is very large, it can still be very hard/impossible to detect.  So even after performing the above, we would often have to charge it with refrigerant and let the unit run to find the leak.  I believe our service manager [redacted] has reached out to you after talking to the manufacturer and this issue has been resolved to your satisfaction. Please let our office know if there are any further issues that need to be resolved.[redacted], owner

Thank you for letting us know about your dissatisfaction with your 2 year old air conditioner and our response to your situation.  Rarely does a 2 year old air conditioner develop a refrigerant leak, but it does occasionally happen.  Most likely the leak is in...

the indoor coil and it is caused by formicary corrosion from chemicals in your house reacting to the copper in the coil, but until we can pinpoint the leak,  we cannot be sure.  We were originally there on Saturday and stopped out again on Monday at no charge to verify the problem was with the unit and not with any defect in the workmanship during our installation.  The manufacturer covers all parts for 10 years, but after determining where the leak is located, I would recommend contacting them and letting them know of your situation and the fact that their unit developed a  leak after only a couple years of use - Since it is such a new unit, they may contact us and tell us to go ahead and fix it and they will cover the labor for the repair.  Concerning our rates, we are very competitive in the marketplace and have been since 1923.    We do offer emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if a customer does not want to wait until normal business hours which is what happened in your case - but we do have to charge more after hours, as it costs us more to call in a technician from home to service your unit, just like it costs more to go to the emergency room rather than waiting to visit your regular doctor.  We have contacted you by phone and believe we have come to a resolution on this.  Let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.[redacted]Wisconsin Fuel & Heating, Inc.
