Dear ***,
I am writing to you in response to your Revdex.com complaint against ThumbtackI apologize for the poor experience you had using Thumbtack and hope that I
am able to address all of your questions and concernsI spoke with ***, one of our customer representatives, who informed me that he was able to take care of your concernsI'm glad to hear you have decided to continue with Thumbtack and give us another shot!
In regards to your specific complaint here on the Revdex.com, I'd like to address a few of the issues that you mentioned above:
I do want to strongly convey that we are not in the business of scamming our professionalsNot only is it fundamentally against what we stand for here at Thumbtack, it wouldn't make sense from a business perspective eitherOur goal is to be the online marketplace for local servicesWe can only grow if we are connecting real, serious customers with real, quality professionalsSpending time, effort, and funds on creating fake leads simply isn't a winning strategyWe spend a lot of time talking to professionals who have seen a lot of success on Thumbtack - we're proud of them and you can see some of their stories here:
***
As Ryan mentioned, we utilize an in-depth request checklist in order to validate that each customer request before emailing our professionalsWe take request verification very seriously and regularly (and proactively) improve this flow every day
Additionally, we are working hard to improve our request form questions and to circulate customer feedbackWe have a dedicated team that reads support ticket feedback, reaches out to professionals in the field, and reviews suggested questions in order to provide our professionals with the necessary information to submit a quoteWe are also focused on providing feedback to our professionals after you've sent a quoteWe realize that every quote costs money and we are striving to implement new features that will provide you with qualitative feedback, from the customer and Thumbtack
Thank you so much, again, for your feedbackWe are working hard to create a great experience for both our professionals and customers, however, sometimes we do not get it rightPlease let me know if you have any other questions or concerns
Sincerely,
*** CRS

A fraudEnough said

I signed up for my Nanny Services and after I read the agreement which explained how you are responsible to pay the client their set price to review you and give you quotes I decided this must be some sort of a Scam! The first client was asking me to pay her $are you kidding me?? If the client seeks my service they are going to be paying me I REFUSE to pay the client!! Sounded very Suspicious so I deleted the account and came to Revdex.com to write this review!
***

I hired one the contractors that was listed on their website The contractor assured me (in writing) that he was licensed and insuredA few days after the work was complete, I began to notice that the structure, that they were hired to repair, was not structurally sound I hired a certified inspector to inspect their work and he confirmed my observations The 'repaired' structure was not structurally sound and unsafeI filed a complaint with ThumbTack.*** and asked them, twice, if they researched and confirmed the credentials of the contractors that are listed and offered as professionals, on their website I never received a reply to this questionThey only claimed that the contractor who I hired was no longer with that listed company

I don't normally take to public bashing, but over the last few weeks I have never been so disappointed in a company in my entire years as a photographerThumbtack users, did you know that every time you submit a request for work, whether it be photographer or house cleaning, each professional that gets back to you has to pay upwards of $to send you a reply?
That amount of money doesn't seem a like a lot, but most Thumbtack registered professionals, myself included, can send over quotes a dayAt $a quote that adds up!
Now, Thumbtack has just "restructured" the way it views how much each job is worthThey have deemed categories like "Wedding Photography" as being highly competitive and have raised the price for professionals to submit up to nearly $per quote! I could spend hundreds of dollars a day just requesting that clients consider me for the jobThe client --- doesn't even have to respond --- or acknowledge that I sent them a thoughtful message, a price, and my portfolio
Again, the basis of this price comes from a job that is considered "highly competitive", meaning Thumbtack is walking away with a hefty amount money per every single --- potential --- customer
That isn't it
After watching the amount of requests for photography work come in, I noticed I wasn't seeing any Senior Portrait requestsThis was strange to me, considering that this time of year is prime time for booking graduation portraitsSo I sent Thumbtack a message asking what had happened to the category
This was their response:
"I'd like to explain a little more about the service categories we have on ThumbtackWe've had many different services on our site, and experience has shown us that every service is unique and some seem to work better on Thumbtack than others
Senior Portrait Photography is one of the services that didn't seem to be a good fit, so we've decided to remove it from our site for nowOur decision came down to our desire to help your business succeed, and we felt that we weren't supporting your business in the way we hoped."
This is absolutely ridiculousSenior Portrait photography was where I booked 80% of my Thumbtack work last year, earning me a Best of Thumbtack badgeThumbtack has basically cut off my businessBetween not being able to justify the pricing on their wedding photography quotes and not having an outlet to submit my work for Senior Portraits, they can kiss my annual investment of $2000+ towards their quoting system goodbye
I encourage you, if you are a user of Thumbtack, to look for ways to find businesses to hire elsewhereIf you a professional using Thumbtack, I encourage you use platforms like ***, *** to grow your businessBottom line, entrepreneurs do not have a comfortable home at Thumbtack

Hi ***,
My name is*** and I am writing in response to your Revdex.com complaintI left you a voicemail this morning and look forward to hearing back from youI'm
sorry to hear you haven't found success when using ThumbtackWe work really hard to introduce you to interested clients, and encourage our customers to respond to each quoteI went ahead and refunded your last credit purchases, which puts your total refund at $
I am sorry to hear that your customer leads were mostly unresponsive; It's completely the customer's decision as to whether or not they would like to respond to each bidWith that being said, we encourage them to respond to every quoteWe see our role as that of making the introduction to a potential customer and then we get out of the way so that the service pro, who is best equipped to actually sell the customer on their service anyway, can tackle the lead however they see fitWe actually have a hard time tracking precisely what happens after the introduction is made because the service pro and the customer usually move communication to their own email clients or connect via phone (which is fine by us!)
I do want to strongly convey that we are not in the business of scamming our service professionalsNot only is it fundamentally against what we stand for here at Thumbtack, it wouldn't make sense from a business perspective eitherOur goal is to be the online marketplace for local servicesWe can only grow if we are connecting real, serious customers with real, quality service professionalsSpending time, effort, and funds on creating fake leads simply isn't a winning strategyWe spend a lot of time talking to service professionals who have seen a lot of success on Thumbtack - we're proud of them and you can see some of their stories here:

Dear ***,
I am writing to you in response to your Revdex.com complaint against ThumbtackI apologize for the poor experience you had using Thumbtack and hope that I
am able to address all of your questions and concernsI went ahead and processed your refund request, which brings your total refund to $Please note that it will take a few business days for the funds to post to your account
I looked into your Thumbtack account and noticed that you submitted a total of bidsI understand your frustration in not hearing back from these customers, however please note that even our most successful service professionals do not hear back from some of their customer leads as wellIf you're interested in using Thumbtack in the future, I recommend visiting the link below, which contains a list of best known practices on how to submit a winning bidThese tips include how to build a winning profile, getting reviews, and much more:
http://www.thumbtack.com/pros/how-thumbtack-works#get-hired
We currently do not mandate that our customers display their personal contact information, such as a phone number or email, because of trust and safety concernsOur customers enjoy using Thumbtack because it allows them to quickly find contractors and contact the service professionals that they actually interested in hiringI apologize that your customer leads did not provide an accurate phone number; it is up to the customer to correctly input their phone if they choose to enter this information in the requestOur suggestion is to contact the customer through the Thumbtack messaging system - simply let them know that their phone number is invalid and that you are interested in working for them
Thumbtack charges our service professionals to place a quote, instead of only when the service professional is hired because we do not consider ourselves a commission based business modelRather, we see our role as that of making the introduction between our service professionals to a potential customer and then we get out of the way so that the service pro, who is best equipped to actually sell the customer on their service anyway, can tackle the lead however they see fitWe charge our service professionals by the credit because our users are able to create accounts with multiple profiles, which often utilize different category pricing
Purchasing leads on Thumbtack should be considered an advertising costThink about buying TV commercials or listing on a directory like YelpMany people see that advertisement, but only a couple will likely turn into customersThe difference with Thumbtack, is that we are enabling you to place your advertisement in front of a potential customer you know needs your exact service and talents who is in your geographic areaFurther, your advertisement will never compete with more than other service professionals, because we do not allow a request to receive more than quotesWith that being said, we do not guarantee that you will win the job or hear back from every customer; it's up to the service professional to competitively 'sell' themselves through the bidding process
I do want to strongly convey that we are not in the business of scamming our service professionalsNot only is it fundamentally against what we stand for here at Thumbtack, it wouldn't make sense from a business perspective eitherOur goal is to be the online marketplace for local servicesWe can only grow if we are connecting real, serious customers with real, quality service professionalsSpending time, effort, and funds on creating fake leads simply isn't a winning strategyWe spend a lot of time talking to service professionals who have seen a lot of success on Thumbtack - we're proud of them and you can see some of their stories here:
http://www.thumbtack.com/pros/stories
Thank you so much, again, for your feedbackWe are working hard to create a great experience for both our service professionals and consumers, however, sometimes we do not get it rightI'm more than happy to offer you a few complimentary credits as well, if you're interested in using Thumbtack in the futurePlease let me know if you have any other questions or concerns

Dear ***,
I am reaching out regarding the Revdex.com complaint you filed against ThumbtackWe take these complaints seriously and would like to discuss your concernsI have tried calling several times, but unfortunately, have not been
able to connect with youIt's disappointing to hear that you have not found more success with Thumbtack, and we would like to help in any way we can to change that
I understand the frustration of not hearing back, or being hired, when you have offered a quote on many customer requestsThumbtack takes several measures to prevent requests from customers that may not be legitimateIt is important to Thumbtack that we create a marketplace that can be trusted both by customers and professionalsThough we can not guarantee that a customer will hire on every request, we do ask that they have that intention to hire before placing their requestWe discourage customers from "price fishing", or placing requests that are inaccurate
There may be several reasons why a customer does not respond to a quote you have submittedWe encourage customers to review all quotes they receive, and to review the professionals' profiles and reviews to help determine whom they feel is the best fit for their needsLooking into your profile and messaging in the quotes you have submitted, there are a few things that may be a factor in not hearing back from customersWe would be happy to go over your profile and messaging in your quotes and discuss with you those areas of opportunity to improveIt is our hope that with some small changes, you can find greater success and be hired more frequently
As far as the request for a refund of credits that have been purchased, I would be happy to discuss that with you directlyI understand that the experience you have had with Thumbtack has not met your expectations, and we would like to do what we can to improve on that
I would like to speak with you to address your concernsI have sent you an email directly with my contact informationPlease call me at your earliest convenience so we can discuss this matter further

HI ***, I stayed in the phone with one of your Representative discussing this matter and she was to transfer me to a supervisor, this never happened, as I waited for sometimeMy quotes to the clients where tested by me and realized that although I provided low prices, and event free sessions- not one but few, not even one person will contact me backThis is very supercilious to believe that these leads are fake and that there is not much success with other customers and just complainI am requesting a refund of all the times I purchased point for the last years and half

Hi ***,
I am sorry to hear that you have not found success on ThumbtackWe work really hard to introduce you to interested clients, and
encourage our customers to respond to each quote
One thing that is important to remember is that we don't guarantee service pros that they'll win the jobWe see our role as that of making the introduction to a potential customer and then we get out of the way so that the service pro, who is best equipped to actually sell the customer on their service anyway, can tackle the lead however they see fitWe actually have a hard time tracking precisely what happens after the introduction is made because the service pro and the customer usually move communication to their own email clients or connect via phone (which is fine by us!)
I do want to emphasize that Thumbtack does not generate fake leadsWe actually have a very elaborate request verification process where a computer algorithm flags any suspicious requests and new accountsWe then go in and manually check those leads that have been flagged as suspiciousOur mission is to be THE online marketplace for local servicesWe can only grow if we are connecting real, serious customers with real, quality service prosSpending time, effort, and funds on creating fake leads simply isn't a winning strategy

I appreciate your feedback on our policy, however we are unable to change our refund policy at this timeAs noted on the page where you submitted your quote, we'll automatically send you an email as soon as your quote is viewed by the customerIf the customer doesn't view your quote within hours of your submission, we'll automatically return the Thumbtack Credits to your account, so you can use them again free of charge on the next work request that interests youWe do not offer refunds once the quote is viewed because we give the consumer full access to your contact info, including your phone number and websiteWe therefore have no way of monitoring a consumer's actions once a quote is readPlease remember that you are not required to respond to a customer job request - it is entirely your choice if you'd like to submit a quote to the customer

Dear ***,
I am writing to you in response to your Revdex.com complaint against ThumbtackI apologize for the poor experience you had using Thumbtack and hope that I
am able to address all of your questions and concerns
First, I'd like to clarify that you are receiving job requests that are syndicated by our Thumbtack system and staffWe process our job requests in order to verify the identity of the customer and to properly invite the correct service professionalsPlease note that your requests weren't actually submitted at 3:00am - the syndication and approval process was completed by a team of agents in the Philippines that work during off-hours due to the time change
I looked into your Thumbtack account and noticed that you submitted a total of bidsI understand your frustration in not hearing back from of these customers, however please note that even our most successful service professionals do not hear back from their customer leads as wellIf you're interested in using Thumbtack in the future, I recommend visiting the link below, which contains a list of best known practices on how to submit a winning bidThese tips include how to build a winning profile, getting reviews, and much more:

Lastly, I'd like to address your suggestion regarding general success metricsWe are working hard to create dashboards that help pros track their success and spend on ThumbtackWe currently do not have an accurate count of revenue made by our service professionals because customers aren't able to pay the pro via ThumbtackThe job and payment is completely handled offlineFurthermore, our hire rate is completely dependent on the service pro and / or customer updating the job status on Thumbtack, which is often left untouched
Thank you so much, again, for your feedbackWe are working hard to create a great experience for both our service professionals and consumers, however, sometimes we do not get it rightPlease let me know if you have any other questions or concerns

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2014/04/01) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

Here's what I have to say about my experience with Thumbtack: No
First, let me lay out how this worksYou get a series of requests from potential clients that come in at whatever time they’re submittedIt’s utter chaos with the mobile app notificationsOnly the first five responders can give a quoteYou must then pay for an allotment of tokens in order to spend the tokens to give the clients a quoteEach client seems to have an arbitrary token value assigned to their requestIt’s about $a token and the requests I was getting required 8-tokens to quote
Once you’ve made a quote, if the client doesn’t view the quote within two days your tokens are refunded to youHowever, if your quote is viewed within those first two days then your tokens are gone, and the client has no commitment to pursue or even respond to any quote including yoursI don’t believe clients are aware of this, so when they just look at quotes just because they can they might not realize they are costing people money Not to mention there is no way to know if any request is real, or not simply generated by the site itself
You’re much better off using the facebook ad system in my opinionThumbtack is way too much work and has far too small of a scope for its valueQuotes come in at all hours and you have to check in multiple times a day, every day to keep up with all the requestsI’ll be using the last of my tokens and then closing my account when it’s no longer useful
