I moved out of a Thurcon Property apartment after a year. Received only partial of my security deposit. It stated basically a form letter of things that I have seen have been the same for others. The apartment was left in move in very good condition. Very clean. After constant emails, phone calls, and letters I just gave up trying to get the rest of my deposit. New problem arose! The check (even though it didn't say it) expired after 6 months! So more phone calls, letters, emails and basically now don't have any security deposit from them. They are unwillingly to send a new check (even for the reduced amount)!

Review: My husband and I rented from Thurcon Properties for over 4 years and moved out when our lease expired. We received the security deposit 75 days after moving out and we're shocked at 'noted defects' and witholding from the security deposit. Our concern is specific to the paint $200.00, trash removal $200.00, rent owed $100.18 and late fee $50.00.

-There was no trash left within the apartment, so we are not sure where this fee arose from.

-We had lived in that apartment for 4 years, painting is expected as normal wear and tear, we do not believe this is a valid charge for tenants renting for such a length of time.

-The one day of rent is not due. We vacated the premises on the [redacted] and delivered the keys to the front desk that night. The amount paid of $940.00 was based on occupying the apartment for 14 of 31 days at a monthly rate of $2,080.36 (which actually comes out to $939.52).

-The final rent was paid in a timely fashion, so we do not feel that a late fee is warranted.

-We did take a video of the apartment the day we had left for reference and the state of the premises is not in a level of disarray detailed in the letter. It can be provided at your request.

As previously mentioned, we do not believe that the security deposit was returned in a timely fashion. It was over 75 days from the date we vacated until the date the check was mailed. Furthermore, this seemed only to be a result of our persistent emails and phone calls following up on the status of the deposit.

Finally, my husband and I called and emailed [redacted] at Thurcon with our concerns but were referred to the [redacted], [redacted]. Despite multiple attempts to email and contact the [redacted] by phone, and email our messages went unanswered.

After further investigation, we discovered this is common practice for Thurcon (source: [redacted]) and feel they should be investigated for fraudulent practices by a regulatory agency.Desired Settlement: Return of our security deposit in the amount of $550.
