Review: Our 1000 gallon tank was filled by Tiger on August 27 with 742 gallons. We needed the furnace for the first time 3 weeks later on Oct 18. It ran fine burning the fuel in the filter and lines, but quit when the new fuel reached the burner. Our repairman discovered water in the fuel. He removed 3 gallons using the pump on the oil burner but there was plenty more. We tested, and the tank had 1.5 inches of water, between 8 and 15 gallons.

I called Tiger fuel. "We don't pump water out of tanks anymore," I was told, and was given the name of someone who who did who used to work for them. Removal of their water would be at my expense.

I contacted Mr. [redacted], operations manager at Tiger Fuel. He recognized the problem, and it sounded to me that he acknowledged it was Tiger's fault, and would be back in touch. Instead I got a call from someone named [redacted] who denied Tiger delivered water.

This underground tank has never had a leak of any kind. To absorb condensation, I've been adding [redacted] annually since 1985. We never had a problem with water in the lines in the 31 years living here.

While there's a first time for everything, tank leaks begin slow, not 10 gallons all at once. We had 2.5 inches of rain at the end of October. It did not increase the measurable water in the tank. There is no leakage.

Did others on the delivery route August 27 get water? Of course not. Water is denser than No. 2 fuel oil, and collects on the bottom of the tank. When a delivery truck tank partition is adulterated with water, the first delivery where the truck slants the right way on a hill gets it all.

We're into November and Tiger Fuel has done nothing except fail to return my phone calls to Mr [redacted]. I'm 78. Am I supposed to do this job? Where could I legally dispose of contaminated water?Desired Settlement: Pump the water out of my tank and lines, clean the filter housing and replace the filter, return the oil burner to operating condition at their expense.

Review: I ordered a delivery of fuel oil from Tiger Fuel. Since it was my first order for the winter season, I expected it to be $300-500, maybe up to $750. When I last ordered fuel oil from them, the charge was about $350. They delivered the oil yesterday. When I arrived home yesterday evening, the invoice was for $1,535.69! I was shocked! I couldn't believe that they did not ask for some kind of confirmation from me before delivering such an expensive amount of fuel oil. I have only rented this house for two years, so I had no idea that the fuel tank even had such a large capacity. I feel like they took advantage of the situation to sell me a huge amount of oil. They are the experts in this situation and should have some level of customer service in place to avoid this kind of abusive practice. At no time did they ask if I wanted to put a cap on the amount or price in advance either when I first placed the order or when the delivery worker was at my house. Now I am facing the holiday season with a heating oil bill of over $1,500, and I will still have to pay for electricity over the winter months as well. I called this morning to see if we could work out an adjustment on the price, since I ended up purchasing such a large quantity. All Tiger Fuel offered was a 10 cent discount on the $3.58 price per gallon. This would have reduced my $1,535 bill by only $51! The representative offered to set up a payment plan, but I felt like the offered discount fell way below what the circumstances called for. I told her I would contaact the Revdex.com to file a complaint.Desired Settlement: A 50% adjustment on the oil charge, which, plus taxes and fees, results in $779.81. This is appropriate in light of their poor customer service and how they took advantage of the situation to leave me with an unreasonably high fuel oil charge.

Hello,

[redacted] called early the week of November 11th and asked the dispatcher to 'fill his tank'. The tank holds 550 gallons and we put 422gallons into the tank on November 14th, as instructed. The pre-tax price of the fuel delivered was $3.579/gallon, which was 5 cents cheaper than the fuel we delivered on January 4th of 2012, which [redacted] did not have a problem with. My dispatcher realized that the bill was large and offered an additional discount of 10 cents per gallon to help alleviate some of the cost. The customer's request to cut their bill in half would result in us taking a major loss for what was an honest mistake. We would have happily filled the tank half way if instructed, or even asked permission to fill it if we were not specifically told to fill it.

The best option I can offer to reduce the bill would be to remove 1/2 of the fuel delivered and credit it back to the customer's account, or to establish a payment plan to spread the cost over an extended period of time.

Thanks

Tiger Fuel Company

Response:

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]

Regards,

After I filed my Revdex.com complaint, I spoke with the [redacted] at the local Tiger Fuel, and he agreed to remove half of the oil they had delivered (leaving about $700 remaining in my tank) and gave me a slightly better rate on the oil purchase. Since then, Tiger Fuel has not, to my knowledge, removed the oil nor provided a revised invoice for the remaining oil. On the other hand, they have also not made any attempt to collect on the original balance. They have not raised the issue either way.

My concern is that closing the Revdex.com complaint as resolved before Tiger Fuel has actually followed through on their agreement removes some of the incentive for them to stick to their word. I think my only request at this time is that the Revdex.com complaint be reactivated and kept open until Tiger Fuel follows through on their agreement.

Let me know if you would like any additional information at this point.

Best regards,

Business

Response:

Spoke with the business. They said the credit has been placed on the bill but the fuel wasn’t been removed yet. It will be removed but they haven’t been able to get out to do it yet, but the credit has been given.
