I have taken my truck into this shop 9 times now to simply get steering problems fixed. The last three times I've taken it there I've had to replace parts damaged by their work out of my own pocket.

Tilden Car Care Center Response • Feb 25, 2020

The vehicle in question has over 225,000 miles and is 19 years old, there are a number of decaying rubber components through out the vehicle that must be replaced due to being dry rotted, or brittle. The condition of these components is in no way the financial responsibility of the service provider. This customer has repeatedly brought the vehicle back under the pretense of a "Warranty Alignment" only to find that the customer has been changing steering/suspension components outside of our facility. Due to the customer's disposition and in the name of customer service we have repeatedly obliged him. Fully knowing that these changes are not covered under the scope of the warranty. That being said the customer has also been quoted repairs he has declined because he does not feel like he should be responsible for the cost of parts or labor. At this point we feel like we have done everything within our power to reasonably satisfy the customer going so far as to violating company policy and providing *** with warranty services on a Saturday, warranty work must be scheduled during weekday hours only. A topic which has also been covered multiple times with him. The longer this vehicle is driven with out the necessary repairs being completed the more damage is being done to the steering rack. As *** approaches the end of the steering rack warranty there is a high chance there will already be irreparable damage to the power steering system as a whole due to leaking power steering hoses.

Complaint: *** I am rejecting this response because:I was only adhering to their suggestions. I did not think it was feasible to spend yet another $1000 to get other repairs done by them and p OP ssibly having to buy more parts to fix.

Bought a car in June 2019 and went to Tildens auto shop to get our oil changed on 12/10/19 at 7a.m. then went straight home. 2nd time we got oil changed at this location since buying car. No problems with car previous to change.Left for a doctor's appointment at 10 am but noticed oil in driveway so I stopped and turned car off. There was more than a quart of very dirty oil puddles in driveway. Called Tildens, they apologized and said they would get it towed to them to look at it. Never said they were going to charge for the tow. They called a couple of hours later and said the leak was coincidence and no error on their part. Said some sort of housing seal busted and gave us an estimate to fix it for more that $1,000. They said we did not have to pay for tow. We told him (*** we would not be paying them for these repairs, this problem was their fault , and we would be taking the car to my mechanic a mile down the road. He then told us we could only drive the car away if we signed a waiver relieving them of liability from damages to car due to driving it without oil. We would not sign. We decided instead we would have it towed to the shop and not sign. While waiting for tow they got agitated and decided they would not give us our keys until we paid for the 1st tow fee. Eventually, we paid the fee and took car to mechanic. We took pictures of everything. The mechanic said (and will sign an affidavit backing this up) that there was nothing wrong with the car. The drip pan at the bottom was completely dry, no leaks, no broken seal. He said the oil had been sprayed on the back of the engine block to make it seem like it was leaking. He also said the oil had not actually been changed this time or the last time considering how dirty the oil was. I saved some of the oil and they took pictures of the whole thing. This place could have destroyed my car by not changing the oil when they were paid to do so and they were trying to get me to pay for repairs it did not need

Unfortunately this was a very out of control situation, this vehicle was in a state of disrepair at the time of service tilden car care performed the oil change, the car was not in for diagnostics so so recommendations were made at the time of the initial service. The customer called back demanding a refund exclaiming there was dirty oil leaking all over her drive way, I asked if they had check the engine oil to which I received a negative response, as a follow up question I asked if they could check to see if the vehicle was safe to drive to which I received a negative response, I then offered to have the vehicle towed back to the shop under the condition that if it was unrelated to the oil change service performed that they would be responsible for the cost of the tow. The customer agreed to have the vehicle towed back to the shop. Upon arrival we diagnosed the vehicle as having a very serious oil leak coming from the oil cooler. The customer was quoted the repair cost and declined the repair. The customer was only charged 65.00 which is the cost of the tow with no mark up, the customer was also given a copy of the tow receipt. That being said both customers used profanity towards the counter attendant the female even pushed the counter attendant and forced her way into the employee only area behind the front counter, police were notified and came to the scene, the counter attendant declined pressing assault charges on the female.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
That is entirely inaccurate. The car was in perfect working condition before the oil change. The short conversation about the tow did not discuss payment. The associate I spoke with said he was going to get a tow because he wasn't comfortable with me driving it. When we got to the shop we were told we did not have to pay for the tow. We refused to get the repairs there and did not believe the story we were being given. We decided to wait for a tow. While waiting another associate took over and told my boyfriend he would have to pay the tow. He got upset by the cocky nature of the of the associate and used a curse word. He then tried to pay for the tow but he was told he was not going to be getting his keys back that day and he needed to leave. I was in fear of what they would do to my car once left alone with it and I demanded my keys. I was told I would not be getting my keys at all today. I tried to get them before being pushed away. When the police arrived, bespoke to them outside before they walked my boyfriend in to pay the tow and get the key. The police never talked with the associates. They talked with us and left when we did. To say they asked the associates anything about pressing charges was a straight up lie. We got the car to the mechanic and he did an evaluation while videotaping the entire thing. There is nothing wrong with the car they had sprayed oil on the back of the transmission. It had no leak. They use a snake camera to check the drip pan at the bottom of the engine and it was completely dry. The oil they got out of the car after he paid for an oil change. They did not change the oil the only thing they changed was the filter. This mechanic will vouch for what I'm saying and he will also sign an affidavit. The car cannot be in disrepair when there is nothing wrong with it. The oil filter was also not put on correctly so it's a good thing we did not drive it. Short version- there was nothing wrong with the car. They tried to make us think there was a thousand dollars worth of repairs that needed to be done. We paid for an oil change. They did not change the oil but said they did. This is not how you do business. I will follow up with a notarized affidavit from a licensed mechanic verifying everything I have stated.

Regards

My car engine would not start. I towed it to Tilden. After an hour waiting I was told that it was wiring. Then told it was the starter. I was told to pay ahead of repairs so I did. I was going to now be late with rent but I knew I needed my car. First he had me wait 4 hours before explaining to me that the car has to be kept over night to finish. The next day in told by the manager that the car's engine needed to be replaced because there was no pilot in the car. This was a lie. I kept the car up to date with oil changes and have the receipts. The car was a 2014 Kia I. Bought brand new. Some how they burned out the engine but I can't prove it. They told me it will now cost 3800 to repair. I towed it home to have dealership look at it. I wanted my money for the original charge of 760.00 dollars refunded to me since they did nothing to the car

The vehicle was towed to our facility with a no start complaint, after performing a battery/alternator/starter test using a UL certified tester the customer was provided with the results of the test. The test showed that his starter was no longer deploying the bendix although there were twelve volts going to to the starter. At that point a starter was quoted, after installing the new starter there on the first attempt to start the engine there was uncharacteristic engine noise and smoke coming from under the hood, at that point the customer was approached for authorization of further diagnostic labor. Diagnostics found the new starter had failed in a similar fashion to the original starter as well as melted wiring leading to the starter. The wiring was repaired and the starter was replaced under warranty. The new starter was able to turn the engine but the initial start up sound persisted. Ultimately it was discovered that the car had been driven with out oil and the engine was seized. The customer was informed of the situation and was given the engine quote. Unfortunately if the customer had been more forth coming with information specifically in regards to the last time the vehicle ran and the engine issues (i.e. rough idle, grinding sounds, smoking, loss of power etc) that most certainly led to the catastrophic engine failure that precipitated we would not have wasted over ten hours of free electrical diagnostics repairing burnt wiring from constantly cranking the starter to the point of failure. The customer was also informed that we would take the price of his current repair and apply it towards his engine in an attempt to ease the financial burden.

I went in to tildens to have an oil change on my tahoe. When I first arrived was told 2 hour wait and they would call when car was done. In a matter of 30 min Rose called me and informed me it was ready. When I picked up car I drove back to work 5 minutes away. When I pulled in parking lot of my work there was smoke rolling out from under hood and smell was horrendous. I immediately called Tildens and was told a service man was on his way. 30 minutes passes and they call me back and then inform me they cant come they want me to drive it back, and I informed them that I would not risk driving it again so they send a Samuel who proceeds to use upholstry cleaner to clean spilled oil as he says thats all that wrong. when I leave work to drive the hour home to get my kids it starts smoking again. I call and tell them and the owner andrew perez was flat rude and nasty. says its just spilled oil and I proceed to explain to him that it is not, there was something wrong and at this point he needed to refund what I paid for their not done job so I could go else where cause I could no longer trust them touching my vehicle. He proceeds to tell me "hes not a charity case" and doesnt work for free but would try and clean more of the spilt oil...
fast forward to this morning, I leave home to make my hour trip to work but make it maybe 5 minutes before my car tells me I have 0% oil life remaining and my oil pressure gauge goes to zero on red line. I pull over and park tahoe and have my spouse bring me our other vehicle.
I call tildens and theyre demanding to go pick it up and "look at it" I explained that would not happen and I have a local highly rated shop that would be taking care of me. they started demanding to know what company and said they had to know, which I refused to inform them! Steer clear of tildens at all cost, very poorly done work that will leave your vehicle with issues, and even worse customer service! I dont know how they are still in business.

I brought my vehicle to Tilden Care Care on June 4th to have my oil changed, tires rotated and my fluids checked. My hubcap to my passenger driver side rim was never placed back on. My fluids were never checked and the oil was dirty.
I contacted Tilden Car Center to let them know they forgot to put put the cover to my rim back on. I spoke with *** who seemed to have blown me off and didn't seem to care about my complaint.
I stopped in the following Monday and was told by *** that there wasn't anything she could do for me. I spoke to the manager who stated that the cover probably just fell off on the highway and refused to admit that they failed to put my cap back on.
I also told him that my oil looked dirty and my fluids weren't checked. The manager told me that he could give me a credit for the oil change, but would not replace the cover to my rim. I was treated extremely rude to both *** and the manager.

Attached is a copy of the customers original Invoice as well as the Invoice refunding the customer for the oil change. Mr. has been bringing the vehicle in question to this location for ten years and now has over 178,272 miles on it. On average Mr. puts 5,000 miles (sometimes significantly more) while using our 3,000 mile-rated Penzoil Synthetic Blend which we offer at $15.00. All vehicles are given stickers stating the mileage they are due for their next service. The customer was definitely given new oil, however after a few days I can understand how it would look dirty after being in an un-cared for engine. There was clear indication that the fluids were checked as per the invoice, but since there was no charge I can only conclude that the customer opted out of our $3.99 top-off charge for fluids. The only fluid we do not charge to top-off is windshield wiper fluid, and if that is the fluid in question, it was forgotten by one of my general service employees working long hours in the heat and was not done maliciously. The "Rim" the customer is refering to is, in actuality, a hubcap and has been printed under the vehicle recommendations as cracked and needing replacement on every invoice the customer has received on this vehicle (See Attached). Please let me know if there is any other information you need from me to get this resolved. Thank You,***Tilden Car Caredba Apex Auto Group***White Settlement, Texas 76108*** Office*** Fax

Tilden replaced my alternator in my 2007 Saturn and when I drove it home it died and wouldn’t restart. I called Tilden and was told to bring it back. I said it won’t start so you should come and jump start. They said no you must call a wrecker and I said no you should call a wrecker because I shouldn’t have to pay for towing. They said something else might be preventing it from starting so they wouldn’t pay for towing unless I had it towed to there and they found that it was their repair that was the problem. I said how can I trust that you will be honest. They say that I asked them to replace my alternator so they didn’t check to see if there was something else wrong. I had it towed to a different auto repair and they found that the alternator Tilden installed was defective and they replaced it with a good one. Now Tilden refuses to refund any money. Not even the cost of the alternator.

I took my vehicle for shaking and wear on front tires. Prior to this, I had an alignment done at Tilden to make sure that was the issue. I was told it was very minimal and that was not it. March 25th I took it because the shaking was bad and the wear on tires was as well. I was charged $958.98 for replacing upper control arms and the shocks or struts, one of them. Charged $420 dollars for labor. In June the shaking began to get worse and the wear on the tires as well. End of June I had my tire was flat and took it to a shop. The guy there looked at the suspension area when I asked to check to see anything wrong because of the shaking. I was told everything under is old and you need replacing, which I though but I already had it fixed back in March. He said if they put the upper control arms they didn't replace the bottom which means that the news ones lock in and the old ones take the brunt of the pressure and will give out. I go back to Tilden today to try and resolve the issue and was offered an alignment and I had to pay $100 dollars for it to see if that was the issue. I asked why the alignment wasn't done correctly since the problem was to be fixed and the rep said that somebody didn't explain it to me, which is correct, no one said anything other than here is what you need and go for it. Even the taxi driver said that they were trying to get me to come back each time the another part broke which makes sense when while the truck was being worked on, they would have spotted issues that result in shaking, etc. I also learned that auto parts discount for auto shops and they save that money. I was charged 210 labor to install the shocks at $105 an hour. I was charged 210 for the arms same time frame. It would make sense to do the work all at once. I am not a mechanic so not sure how long it takes to replace the shocks and what the price on them are because other mechanics would do the same work for half the price. Technically I was duped. Sadly because this shop was recommended and found it not to be up front and honest. I will not spend another dime here.
