On December 16, Mr*** had his mother's Monte Carlo towed into the dealership and informed us the vehicle would not start and the key was stuck in the ignitionWe determined the battery was dead and put it on a chargerWith a charged battery, the vehicle still would not startIt was
determined the Body Control Module needed to be replaced along with the batteryMr*** agreed to have the BCM replaced but declined to replace the batteryWhen Mr*** picked up the vehicle it had to be jump startedMr*** paid the bill and took the vehicleSeveral weeks later Mr*** called and informed us the vehicle would not startHe informed us he had replaced the batteryAt our expense, we paid to have the vehicle towed inWe inspected the vehicle and determined the battery had been replaced with a used batteryWe tested the battery and discovered it needed to be replacedWe check for shorts and battery draws and could not find any problemsWe informed Mr*** that the battery needed to be replacedMr*** declined to replace the batteryMr*** picked up the vehicleWe did not charge Mr*** for the inspection and analysisSeveral weeks later Mr*** called and informed us the vehicle would not startHe brought the vehicle in and we observed that the vehicle had a new battery, but the battery needed chargingMr*** informed us that his mother rarely drives the vehicle and it normally sits for several days between startsWe requested Mr*** leave the vehicle with us for several days so we could attempt to duplicate the problemWe gave Mr*** a loaner vehicle at no chargeWe charged the battery and kept the vehicle for approximately daysWe let the vehicle sit unstarted for days and it started without any problemThe battery was not drainedOver the next days we started the vehicle without any problemsWe checked to see if there were any shorts in the vehicle or a draw on the battery and we found noneWe could not duplicate the problem. We informed Mr*** of our findings and he picked up the vehicleAgain, we did not charge him for the inspection and analysis
Today we received a complaint from the Revdex.comIn it, Mr*** stated someone determined there was a short in the radio which was causing the battery to drainThe short in the radio must have been an intermittent problem, because we tested the vehicle for shorts every time it was in our shop and did not find any shorts or drains on the batteryAs discussed above, we had the vehicle for approximately days and the battery did not drain while it was in our possessionWhile the vehicle was in our shop the short in the radio did not surfaceIf it had, we would have informed Mr*** of the problem and given him an estimate to replace itThe only thing we charged Mr*** for was the replacement of the Body Control ModuleThe vehicle would not start until we replaced it We are not responsible for intermittent problems. If the problem is not active while it is in our possession, there is nothing we can do. We attempted to diagnose the problem, but could not find one or duplicate the problem Mr*** was experiencing. We towed the vehicle to our shop at no charge. We inspected the vehicle and attempted to analyze the problem on two different occasions at no charge. We gave Mr*** a loaner vehicle for approximately days at no charge
We are pleased that the short in the radio was active and discovered by someone. Mr*** is asking for a refund of the replacement of the Body Control ModuleThe BCM replacement is not associated with the short in the radioThe BCM was a separate issue and it needed to be replacedBecause of this, we will not refund Mr*** for the replacement of the BCM or any other items he is requesting
