I recently found Tim Owens on [redacted] advertising custom built tree houses. I had him come by for quote. He seemed fairly knowledgeable about being able to repair multiple things, highlighting his [redacted] that he used for trenching. That led to getting a quote on repairing what appeared from his assessment to be a large leak in my well supply line, which was an urgent issue in his estimation. Tim said it was hard to provide a firm quote because the work was exploratory in finding the leak and he wasnt sure how long it would take. As a guideline, Tim said it should be $1000 or less, assuming a 2-day jobthis estimation seemed in line with prior work Ive had done, so we scheduled a date for him to start the work. Tim started the work, found the leak immediately, and completed with the job in only 6 hours. He said it was a relatively minor leak, unlike the initial assessment that prompted the quick repair. The big punch line comes when he invoices me for the work and asks for $900, almost the full $1000 quoted for a 2-day job! I questioned Tim on the amount, saying I was expecting something in the neighborhood of half the original 2-day quote, given it only took 6 hourshe said sorry for the confusion and waited for payment. In shock and concern for Tim placing a lien on the home, I made payment to him. Subsequent to payment, I discussed the situation to a contractor friend and he agreed that Tim had indeed taken advantage of me and excessively charged for the work done. I also later noticed on the invoice Tim had originally written $700, but noticeably changed the 7 to a 9, presumably because he was initially considering charging a rate closer to what would be more in line with the time spent on the job.Product_Or_Service: Water line repairDesired SettlementRebate of part (~$300) of the total amount paid.
