My fiancé and I had Timbered Ridge Custom Homes build us a house on 5 acres. We moved in on November 1, 2013. Just 10 weeks after we moved in, we went down to our unfinished basement to install a light. We pulled back the insulation and found mold. We started tearing down more insulation throughout the basement and found mold covering the entire basement. When the contractor [redacted] came out to our house the next day, he handed us our contract that he had highlighted stating they did not cover mold. Really?! It’s only been 10 weeks and we already have mold?! After he sent out a mold company to inspect the mold, he finally agreed to cover the cost and get the mold mitigated. Before the basement was completely taken care of, we inspected the attic and to our surprise, MORE MOLD! After having home inspectors and other contractors out to inspect our house, everyone was dumbfounded as to what the problem was and why this was happening. During the cold winter, there was ice forming in our basement as the walls were wet to the touch with as much as 90%+ moisture in them. The contractor [redacted] just said it was residual moisture and needed to be dried out. After putting fans in the basement and dried it out, mitigated it and got rid of the mold in the basement, they sent out drywall guys to put insulation in some walls to test it. After 1 week of having the insulation in and having some pretty cold nights, we pulled back the insulation to find the walls filled with moisture and ice and in one area it was starting to form mold again. At this point, the owner [redacted] had finally been involved (1 month after we found the mold), after [redacted] had never returned our emails and was not getting back to us. While waiting around for [redacted] to get back to us, we took it upon ourselves and cut a hole in the drywall in our bedroom. Without much surprise, our living space was filled with MOLD! This is completely unacceptable and we feel as though new homeowners need to know what they may be getting themselves into. There is no explanation as to why our house has as much moisture as it does. It seems as though there is no easy fix to this. The home was our dream home and everything we wanted. Timbered Ridge does build a very nice home, however, something was not done right and caused this problem. Buyers beware!
