Do not hire this company for anything. It is untrustworthy and dishonorable. Plus, it charges two to four times as much with zero transparency (it will not provide detailed receipts that break down cost and materials). Naked and brazen price gouging. Lastly, the company positions itself as having the expertise to cost effectively wire smoke/CO detectors in your home to meet Fire Department certificate standards for selling your home. The company does not have this expertise.
In a blatant money grab, the *** electrician suggested I install multiple detectors throughout my home that were unneeded/not required resulting in an estimate of $4,000+ in unnecessary charges. Luckily, I said no to the unnecessary detectors but only because I had educated myself through publicly posted Commonwealth of Massachusetts Guidelines and two trips to my local Fire Department.
The electrician left my house after installing 3 combo smoke/CO detectors (while his estimate said 5 would be installed) and then tried to get me to agree to pay $1,200 more to come back and complete the job.
The entire experience was negative. Do not hire this company.
On every service call we give open and upfront pricing with options for customer to review, discuss and make an informed decision. Then with written approval we begin work that day if the customer chooses.
Sometimes communication between two parties does not go as expected in the eyes of the customer. When that happens we strive to make it right and clear up any confusion or miscommunication. Our goal is to solve the problem as quickly as possible.
In this case there is some ambiguity as to what the town fire departments from town to town will require for the number of smoke / CO detectors in order to sell a home. Factors such as square footage of the living space and age of home and scope of remodel projects are taken into account when determining the number of smoke detectors needed.
Our new recommendation for a home that a customer is selling is to have a pre-inspection done in person by the fire department official in charge. This will help to make sure the work is done accurately and right the first time.
In this case the owner was confident that only 3 smoke / CO detectors were needed as she was told when she went down to the fire department to inquire as to what was needed. She came back and requested that we install only three. Her subsequent in person inspection from the fire department failed because of a question over locations and required number based on square footage of the home. She was upset and felt we should of known better, stating that we are the experts. We discussed options and costs to correct the problem and she felt that we should add in the extra smoke / CO detector for free. We returned and installed the smoke detector for no charge.
I want to thank this customer for her complaint. It has helped us to inform our customers even better when it comes to the requirements that can vary slightly from town to town for the number and locations for smoke / CO detectors. After all our goal is the safety of the home owner whether it is the current owner or the next owner.
