Tip Top Roofing, Siding, & Solar Reviews (1)

Why were charged work and additional fees that were not approved by us, the home owners. [redacted] quoted us a roof. His first question to my husband was what was your lowest bid. We stated we did not want give that information and to please just give us a quote he said $5,000. We said thank you and he pressured us giving into giving him our lowest bid which we then did and he then dropped his price to $4,600. Sadly, we went with him. We signed a contract that said there may be additional fees such as flashing and wood replacements. [redacted] assured us that no work would be completed without our authorization he also assured us he would be on the job the day of installation. On 9/12/14 the roof was installed [redacted] sent my husband a text saying he could not make it. I was home all day and checked on the roofers multiple times. Asking how it was going if everything was going as planned the response was always good and yes. After the job was completed [redacted] once again sent my husband a text and the job increased by $500. They needed to replace wood and flashing but they never notified us or let us know despite the multiple check in by myself throughout the day. When [redacted] was questioned on this he became rude and defensive. Stating his workers do not even speak English, which 2 did perfectly, so they would not be able to update me. I was disappointed by his reaction and even more disappointed that we could not trust his word that he would not do additional work unless we authorized it. Plus, it seems ironic that in the end his original quote was the one we basically ended up paying plus an additional $100. I just say buyer beware. Never go with the cheapest as they often find ways to nickel and dime you up. His lack of professionalism when questioned about the quote was disheartened. We have worked with many other professionals all whom alert us if they are going over their quote I was under the assumption this would be the same from a roofer especially since he verbally assured us of this. we are paying the invoice since we are honest people but I will certainly let everyone know not to use tip Top Roofing in the future.Desired SettlementIt would be nice if our original quote was honored and we were reimbursed the $500.Business Response To answer the 1st question, an additional fee of $504.00 was charged - "because wood (64 @4.75 = $304.00) see picture and video I am sending) and chimney lead flashing (prorate @ $200.00, not $350.00 because it was smaller) was needed, as stated on line #12 and line #14 on the contract". To answer the comment about pressuring them into giving me the other roofers quote - "that is insane". He said he needed the roof done and I said I would match my quote, so he told me $4700.00. I then quoted $4680.00 and he asked me if I could do it the next day for $4600.00 (I agreed) - no pressure, just good business Bottom line: it's the additional cost for wood and lead flashing, which I told him may be necessary. I have been roofing for many years, and 50-60% of homes have additional costs, so it's something I clearly address ahead of time with every homeowner. They are just upset because it's always about the money and I understand that, but it is clearly stated that this is a possibility in the contract he signed. As to whether I am there or not is not the issue, as the installers are more than qualified to replace and repair only what is needed. I mentioned I had to go to New York that weekend for a situation with my wife's family. I have to do work whether the homeowner is there or not ( usually no one is home because they work). So installers call me and we pay for the wood and Home Depot when they call with credit card. [redacted] also has (in his cell phone) a text from the husband that says: "Hi [redacted]. can you tell me what you anticipate my balance to be and forward me the photos of the damaged wood". This sounds like they were aware of the need for wood, and their contract noted what the costs would be (Revdex.com has copy of contract), He saw the photos and knew the fees, but now he doesn't want to pay the fees....Are they professional people? They claim to be....sound like they are both hotheaded since they made no attempt to contact me at the office and went straight to Yelp and Revdex.com...I tried calling several times and left messages that were not returned. AS the deadline of October 7th closed in, I email PJ and he responded that he did not know his wife did this. He posted negative on Yelp. Revdex.com has copies of my emails with him as I was under the impression that if we cleared it up between us then it would not go on our account. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I stand by my orginal statement. I personally tried to speak with [redacted] about the issues however, he was not open to discussing and was unable to hear and answer my concerns. I felt the situation was unethical and he handled it unprofessionally. My husband and I tried to deal with the matter ourselves and gave them ample time to resolve the issue. We also did pay our invoice in full and in a timely fashion as this is the type of people we are but we did hope for some sort of a refund. When this did not occur we decided to go to a third party to make others aware of our experience. That is why my husband posted on yelp and I contacted the BB. We both felt future consumers needed to be aware and warned of our experience. Final Business Response It seems that their only concern is about having extra charges (not the quality of workmanship)because of this they are making accusations about being unethical and unprofessional - that couldn't be further from the truth. We have over 1000 satisfied customers. We would not have had a problem with the [redacted]'s if additional charges were not added. So they felt upset and went "negative". I have not had any complaints (as mentioned) because I cover that in the proposal, that there's a possibility of extra costs depending on the condition of the decking (wood) and chimney lead (see contract, video and photos sent to customer while we were on their roof!) It is unfortunate they responded negatively and complained and accused Tip Top of being unprofessional - it is their way of trying to get compensated back some money! We would have compensated them if they withdrew their complaint stating they were sufficiently satisfied - but they refused! Please finalize this so we can move on.
